After more than ten years since its introduction, the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX is finally here. Made specifically for the European market, it is obvious that the all-new ASX is just a rebadged Renault Captur. Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B platform, it will be assembled in Renault’s Valladolid plant in Spain.
To at least look like a Mitsubishi, the grille element has been redesigned with elements of Mitsubishi Motor’s Dynamic Shield. The headlights, taillights, and all body panels are shared with the 2022 Renault Captur.
As for powertrain options, the all-new Mitsubishi ASX offers four choices of engines, with several transmission combinations:
1.6-litre Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) with automatic multi-mode transmission1.6-litre full hybrid (HEV) with automatic multi-mode transmission1.3-litre mild-hybrid (MHEV) with 7-speed DCT/6-speed manual transmission1.0-litre turbo engine with 6-speed manual transmission.
The 1.6-litre PHEV version is equipped with two electric motors, an alternator-starter and a main motor. It also gets a 10.5-kWh battery and an automatic multi-mode gearbox. Specifics on the gearbox have not been revealed.
There is also a full-hybrid (HEV) system also with the 1.6-litre engine, albeit with a much smaller 1.3-kWh battery. Like the PHEV, it is also only available with an automatic multi-mode transmission.
The third electrified option is the MHEV with a 1.3-litre engine paired with either a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed manual transmission. The only purely petrol-powered system is the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Aside from the three diamonds on the steering wheel, the cabin of the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX shares everything with the 2022 Renault Captur. A Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) is located at the centre of the instrument panel, and the Multi-Sense system controlled via the SDA allows the driver to select the drive mode that best suits their preference.
In terms of safety, the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems such as MI-PILOT single-lane driver assistance technology for highways, which integrates Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Centering Assist (LCA), are available to support safe driving.
Assembled in Spain, the all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX will be available in selected European markets starting March 2023.
