Rooted in aerodynamic principles, applied to a beautiful form with nothing inessential about it, the Mclaren 720s is one of the most distinctive and remarkable Mclarens ever made but its time to bow out has now arrived.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce another death in the automotive industry as production of the iconic 720s 2023 model ended in December 2022. Mclaren has not revealed or officially announced any replacements as of yet but customers have already placed orders for the expected successor and it is almost sold out for the year 2024.
The 720s debuted in 2017 at the Geneva auto show as a replacement for the Mclaren 650s. equipped with a new lightweight chassis and a hearty V8, the supercar delivers an outstanding performance that challenges much more expensive hypercars. The Mclaren 720s is equipped with a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 pumping out 530 kW of power and 770 N.m of torque. Paired to a seven-speed SSG transmission, which enabled the coupe to rocket from 0-100 km/h in 2,8 seconds and hit a top speed of 341 km/h.

One glance at the Mclaren 720s and it immediately represents Mclarens timeless design, the same design language that we’ve seen in some of the world’s best-looking Mclarens to ever hit the market in recent years. The Mclaren 720s represented a dramatic change in Mclarens Super Series’ design language. Compared to its predecessor, the 720s is poised and much more compact in size.
Mclaren defines the design of the 720s as “Radical innovation”, this is purely interpreted by the lean, sculpted body shape that creates an instantly recognisable silhouette. Lightweight aluminium and composite bodywork wrap tautly around the contours of the carbon fibre Monocage II structure for a form with dramatic intent and striking beauty in equal measure.

We expect more details to be revealed in the coming months about the expected successor. For now, McLaren continues to focus on the roll-out of its new hybrid Artura to its dealers. One thing is clear, the McLaren 720s has set a very high bar for whatever is coming next.
