These five cars are inspired by the winds of the world and go like the wind…
Lamborghini Huracán

Like is the tradition with Lamborghini, the Huracán is named after a Spanish fighting bull from 1879. The bull was named after the Spanish word for hurricane and was known for its courage and strength, which made it a fitting namesake for Lamborghini’s successor to the Gallardo.
Maserati Ghibli

The Maserati Ghibli takes its name from a hot and dry Libyan desert wind with the name chosen to reflect the car’s sleek and sporty design when it was first released in the late 1960s. The Ghibli is one of several Maserati models to take on a name based on winds which also included the Mistral, Bora and Merak.
Pagani Zonda

The Pagani Zonda draws its name from the hot Argentinean wind that blows down the Andes Mountains, which can exceed speeds of 240 km/h (The Zonda’s top speed far exceeds that). The Zonda’s eventual successor the Huayra continues the windy theme, taking its often mispronounced name from the Peruvian wind God Huayra-tata.
Volkswagen Scirocco

The Volkswagen Scirocco gets its name from a hot and strong Saharan desert wind. The name was chosen to reflect the car’s sharp and aerodynamic design, which was intended to evoke the feeling of speed and agility. Like Maserati, Volkswagen too was a fan of naming its vehicles after winds with other models nodding to the theme including the Golf (Gulf stream), Jetta (Jet stream) and Passat (Passatwinde, the German word for trade wind).
Holden Camira

The Holden Camira takes its name from a word that means “of the wind” in some Australian indigenous languages. The name was chosen to reflect the car’s smooth and flowing design, which was intended to evoke a sense of elegance and grace, as well as to reflect its status as a mid-size family car.
