The first of a new line of Fisker vehicles isn’t even in production yet, but Henrik Fisker is already planning for the next one. The EV startup revealed another glimpse of its planned affordable EV dubbed Pear.
Promised to start below $29,900, the Pear is slated to be produced by Foxconn at its Lordstown, Ohio, facility that it has just purchased from Lordstown Motors, along with the rights to manufacture the Endurance pickup.
The Pear, scheduled to enter production in 2024, will be the automaker’s second EV in the current decade, and quite a different effort from the range-extended Karma EV that arrived years ago.
Fisker plans nothing short of a gargantuan output for the Pear, expecting some 250,000 units to roll out of the plant once production hits its stride. Of course, there are plenty of asterisks to this plan, not the least of which is the EV launching on time—a tall order in this day and age for any automaker.
The two latest teaser images are remarkably detailed, showing items such as body panel seams as well as a circular sensor positioned on the lower front fascia. Other details such as the wingtip cameras in place of side mirrors are probably less likely to make production. But overall, the design could be viewed with some degree of confidence as largely complete.
The Pear will be a smallish crossover with a hatchback shape, perhaps similar in size and proportions to the Kia EV6.
Fisker
The teasers suggest the Pear will adopt the shape of a large hatchback, one sporting flared wheel arches and perhaps not much of a wagon shape behind the C-pillar. The tall wheels in the image give the impression of a decidedly small car, but the Pear is expected to have roughly the same footprint as a Kia EV6, though likely taller.
There is certainly a family resemblance to the larger Ocean, which is scheduled to arrive in a matter of months with a low starting price of its own, though the two will not only be made in separate factories, but on separate continents.
If it arrives on time the Pear should certainly be one of the lowest-priced EVs on the market, thanks to a number of automakers (Honda, Nissan, and Volkswagen) not sending its smallest and least expensive electric models stateside. Clearly, the EV market of 2024 is a moving target, amid continuing supplier issues and the rising prices of raw materials.
