Fisker reveals plans for a new hardcore version of its battery-electric Ocean SUV called the Force E.
Depicted in official renderings issued by the California-based automaker ahead of a planned unveiling later this year, the new model offers greater off-road ability than the Fisker Ocean Extreme, upon which it is based.
The Force E, deliveries of which are set to start during the fourth quarter, is planned to offer a similar amount of power as the Ocean Extreme, whose dual electric motors deliver 564 hp and up to 544 lb.-ft. (738 Nm) of torque. Changes to the chassis include what Fisker describes as a “substantial increase in ground clearance and ramp angles, specialized dampers and 33-in. off-road tires shod on 20-in. wheels.”
In announcing the Ocean Force E, Fisker chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker says: “This vehicle is going to be a beast. We’ve pulled out all the stops on this one. And for those who love to go off-road and enjoy nature, what better way than with zero emissions?”
A series of exterior design changes, including a roof tray, lends the new model a more rugged appearance. Inside, the Force E adopts harder-wearing materials along with rubber floor coverings, additional grab handles and tie-down hooks.
Development of the Force E is being carried out at Fisker’s Magic Works division in the U.K. under the direction of Vice President of Engineering David King – whose previous credits include the Aston Martin DB7, Vantage and Rapide.
Customers will be able to have the Force E retrofitted to any all-wheel-drive Ocean model configured in Extreme or Ultra Trim, Fisker says.
After a long ramp-up, Fisker is finally delivering Ocean models to customers this month. The Ocean, a crossover, has an electric range of up to 360 miles (580 km) for the Ocean Extreme model. That range tops rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Nissan Ariya and Hyundai Ioniq 6. Pricing for the Ocean starts at $37,499, but the only ’23 version available to start with is the Ocean Extreme, priced from $68,999.
Fisker began production of the Ocean last November, but it has been prevented from making deliveries until now by a prolonged certification process by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
The Ocean is assembled in Austria by contract-builder/supplier Magna Steyr. Ocean deliveries in Europe began last month.
