Fisker has announced that its third car will be a new GT sports car.
Named “Project Ronin,” the new grand tourer promises to be “innovative, high-tech,” and electric.
Project Ronin follows the Ocean SUV and PEAR hatchback.
“The aim is to achieve the world’s longest-range for a production EV, combined with extremely high levels of performance,” CEO Henrik Fisker said.
“Project Ronin will be a showcase for our internal engineering, powertrain, and software capabilities.”
The car’s code name was inspired by 1998 film of the same name starring Robert De Niro and famous for its lengthy car chases.
The car’s development, however, started last year. Fisker says that it wants to create a futuristic Grand Touring sports car suitable for long road trips while carrying four adults and their luggage.
According to the company, CEO Fisker instructed the engineering team to use the most advanced, lightweight materials and focus on range, performance, and overall driving experience. Active aerodynamics and an “innovative” battery design are also expected to help improve range and performance. The battery pack will also be “integrated” into the structure of the vehicle.
Fisker expects to fully reveal Project Ronin in August next year, with production starting in the second half of 2024.
Aside from long-range performance, Fisker is also promising “unique” doors for easier entry and exit and a luxurious sustainable vegan interior that “plots a new, advanced design direction.”
There is no word on prices yet, but we would expect Project Ronin (or whatever it ends up being called) to be expensive, to say the least. While the Fisker PEAR starts at $29,000, the Ocean SUV starts at $68,999. We would imagine that the new GT will be somewhere to the north of both.
