Screaming American supercar to be offered Down Under in top-spec 3LZ guise only
GMSV has landed the first factory-produced right-hand drive Corvette Z06 at its headquarters in Port Melbourne and confirmed the track-honed supercar will be offered in Australia exclusively in top-spec 3LZ guise.
In a statement issued today, GMSV director Greg Rowe said the display vehicle was “indicative of what customers in Australia and New Zealand can expect from a MY24 Z06”, but stopped short of confirming when orders would open, how many will be available or how much the Z06 will cost.
“Our new show car also features the Z07 Performance Package, which makes it even more eye-catching and enhances its performance prowess thanks to the addition of larger brakes with carbon ceramic rotors, carbon fibre aerodynamic elements, unique suspension tuning, ultra-performance tyres as well as optional carbon fibre wheels,” Rowe said.
Based on its North American starting price of $US105,300, previous currency conversions have pointed to a $200,000-plus starting price for the Z06 in Australia and it seems that figure will only increase now we know we’re only getting the top-shelf trim, which includes sueded microfibre, leather and Nappa leather upholstery, GT2 bucket seats, bountiful amounts of carbon-fibre trim and carbon paddle shifters.
The new C8-generation Z06 is powered by a bespoke 5.5-litre V8 with a flat-plane crank that can rev out to 8600rpm, producing an even 500kW/624Nm in the process.
Drive is shipped exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and claimed 0-97km/h (60mph) acceleration is listed at just 2.6 seconds.
All that bespoke V8 fury is counteracted by some of the largest brakes ever fitted to a Corvette, with the Brembo-sourced rotors spanning 370mm up front and 380mm at the rear, gripped by six- and four-piston callipers respectively.
The high-performance stopping hardware resides behind a set of staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged alloy wheels as standard.
“The Z06 will be on the road around Melbourne and surrounds over coming weeks and Corvette fans and performance car enthusiasts alike are welcome to stop and grab a photo when they see this amazing new model,” Rowe said.
Dealer intel divulged to carsales this time last year revealed the first customer Z06s would arrive Down Under in the second half of 2023 in ultra-limited numbers – less than 50 per allocation.
The Z06 will be joined next year by the electrified Corvette E-Ray, at which point the countdown begins for the reveal of the inevitably savage ZR1 halo model and rumoured Zora hybrid monster.
