#1 – Xpeng launches P5 sedan in four markets in Europe
The Chinese carmaker Xpeng has opened the books for P-5 orders in four European countries. The Chinese sedan is now available to buyers in Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway. With reservations now opening in Europe, this is the first time the manufacturer is making the sedan available outside its homeland. Test drives will begin here in April.
#2 – Rivian runs a risky course
In the United States, Amazon partner Rivian has published its 2021 sales figures. Ramping up their pickup truck production is costing them dearly. Losses increased to nearly 2.5 billion dollars last quarter, up from just 353 million dollars a year ago. This leaves a net loss of about 4.7 billion US dollars, equivalent to 4.25 billion euros for the year just passed. Deliveries remain manageable.
#3 – Mercedes-Benz reveals new strategy for global battery recycling
Mercedes-Benz has released a new global strategy for recycling electric car batteries. A pilot plant is in the making in Germany, and new facilities for battery recycling will emerge in the US and China. The Group confirmed the German plant in Kuppenheim last November and has now revealed, it will apply hydrometallurgy at the plant, a process with a 96 per cent recycling rate.
