Teaser after teaser, and spy shot after spy shot, and even a couple of sneaky leaked shots, the Ferrari ‘Purosangue’ (apparently the actual model won’t be called that) has been officially teased by Ferrari, without its snazzy wraps and jaunty coverings.
“You’ve heard the rumours” Ferrari jibe, going on to say that some of them are true…
So far, rumours are of a V12 hybrid powertrain with something in the region of 900/1 000 hp – oooh. A figure of R8 million has been rumoured, too, which would put it at roughly R2 million more than Aston Martin’s upcoming DBX707, complete with wet clutch gearbox, 900 N.m and some veritable off-road ability…
It would seem as though the iconic marque has also tried not to position ‘Purosangue’ directly against other luxury SUV offerings such as the aforementioned Aston Martin DBX707, Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga, calling it a ‘Ferrari Utility Vehicle’ as opposed to a ‘Sports Utility Vehicle’. Does this suggest little to no off-road ability? It’s hard to say at this point…
Kudos to Ferrari, though, for sticking it out with their first SU… erm, FUV. That’s no mean feat considering the pandemic and now war that have happened between now and when the ‘Purosangue’ was first mentioned in the brand’s product roadmap in 2018, both of which have quite literally ravaged the motor industry.
Image: Motor1 Low slung stance suggests a large bias toward on-road performance. Perhaps chromed exhaust tips are optional?
As for the image, it’s dark and shadowy. By bumping up the brightness, we can clearly see a rather large area where the grille will likely be, adorned with the usual chromed Cavallino Rampante. Above it on the bonnet sits a Ferrari badge, too. Thin and rather aggressive lights sit at the flanks, joined by what starts off as the daytime running lights and then becomes either an intake or a suspiciously large panel gap towards the middle of the car.
Its wing mirrors look like rather large and ungainly ears, the likes of which we have never seen on a Ferrari before. You can thank the Americans for that – legislation dictates that the mirrors need to make up a certain percentage of the total volume of the car, and this is a big car after all…
Included on Ferrari’s website is a message; “stand by for a genuine game-changer. All will be revealed later this year.”
Will it be desirable? Yes. Will it be fast? Very likely. Will most of them be red? Only if you’d like to sell it again.
