Ferrari's 812 Superfast will be replaced by the 812 Competizione
Following the recent teaser of Ferrari’s front-engined supercar, the Italian carmaker has finally unveiled its 812 Competizione (ony 999 units to be made) and Competizione A (only 599) models that essentially replace the current 812 Superfast and GTS models.
At the heart of the two models lives a 6.5-litre V12 naturally-aspirated engine with 610 kW and 692 Nm. The V12 engine can rev all the way to 9 500 r/min, thus making it the highest-revving Ferrari road-car engine ever made.
The Competizione sprints from a stop to 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds, brakes the 200km/h barrier from rest in 7.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed at 340 km/h. Transmission duties are provided by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic that is said to be 5% cent quicker to shift gears than the standard 812 Superfast. Ferrari further claims that the gear ratios are now sportier – uhm, surely that’s a given, but we’ve taken note of this.
Performance details of the Competizione A, which is the convertible, aren’t published as yet, but knowing that convertibles normally weigh more, it could be slightly slower than its coupe counterpart. According to Ferrari, the Targa top is made completely out of carbon fibre.
Both models feature a new rear diffuser and a closed-off rear window (for the Competizione) with a panel that houses a set of vortex generators to assist with aerodynamics. The Competizione A swaps the vortex generators for a bridge between its two buttresses that channels air towards the rear spoiler. Much like the 812 Superfast, the two new siblings also make use of Ferrari’s new evolution four-wheel steering for added agility.
According to Scuderia SA, the first models are expected to arrive in Mzansi in the fourth quarter of 2022.
