Triumph Project TE-1
Riding a motorcycle is not the cup of tea for many but to those who can do it, it’s complete bliss. This is the common belief of motorcycle manufacturers as well. Of course, it needs to be because at the end of the day, it’s built for such customers. One such automaker that has stayed true to this trend is Triumph Motorcycles Ltd.
Motorcycles are not two-wheelers with a motor but it's the “wind in the hair” experience. Motorcyclists define them as a way of freedom and power. It's a sensation and a proven form of independence.
Bikes from Triumph are not only a masterpiece in looks but are also performance-based. You can churn out every last bit of power they have. Also, they are reliable and can withstand the test of time. Speaking of Triumph bikes, the brand has revealed its Project TE-1 prototype motorcycle.
It draws its power from an electric motor with silicon carbide switching technology. The unique collaboration between Triumph and Williams Advanced Engineering led to this creation. Moreover, Project TE-1 will be the brands first electric bike when it goes into production.
By now, you guys must be curious to know more about this motorcycle. So without taking much of your time, let’s get right to the details.
Design
in terms of design, it gets an aggressive-looking front fascia that houses mean-looking LED headlamps
To begin with, let us take a look at its design characteristics
The Project TE-1 comes with a powerful design. It gets an aggressive front end with sleek-looking headlamps. The vehicle features sharp contour lines and a muscular-looking fairing type modelling. Apart from these, it features a bold-looking bolted subframe design.
Further, the cockpit, panels, and wheel look stunning as well. It’s unlike any other electric bike we have seen to date. Towards the rear end, it houses an LED taillamp unit. The backend looks minimalistic yet flows with the overall design characteristics.
Features
Nonetheless, the brand has not revealed its feature list but we know that it gets Brembo M50 monobloc callipers and Öhlins USD cartridge fork
What about its features?
As of now, there are no details about the vehicle’s features. Nonetheless, from the prototype, it’s clear that it houses the following features;
- LED headlamps
- LED taillamps
- Digital Instrument cluster
- Öhlins USD cartridge fork
- Brembo M50 monobloc calipers
- WAE battery pack
- Rider only saddle
Powertrain
The electric bike also comes with a powerful motor that produces 130kW or almost 180 horsepower but weighs only 10 kilograms
What about its powertrain?
The Triumph TE-1’s motor produces 130kW or almost 180 horsepower but weighs only 10 kilograms. This makes it an extremely high-performance machine. Moreover, due to its lightness and powertrain configuration, the vehicle is said to be efficient when it comes to presenting good figures of riding range. Also, unlike other e-bikes, this one does not use unnecessary high voltage cables so as to make it as lightweight as possible.
“One of the most influential factors in how well a motorcycle handles and performs is mass, so at Integral Powertrain we have focused heavily on making a step-change in motor and inverter design, removing heavy high voltage cables for example. This delivers a product that is significantly more compact and lighter than anything currently available on the market. The motor produces 130kW or almost 180 horsepower, but weighs only 10 kilograms, much lighter than existing technology and clearly a small fraction of the mass of traditional internal combustion engines.” said Andrew Cross, Chief Technical Officer at Integral Powertrain Ltd.
Project Triumph TE-1
When will it roll off the showroom floor?
The Triumph Project TE-1 will be entering the fourth phase of testing. This means that the brand with its collaborations will assess the performance. Triumph will be considering the engine performance, acceleration, battery-pack range, and similar aspects. It will also take a look at the overall rideability of the vehicle. Once the test gets over with, perhaps by the end of summer, further announcements about the bike will form.
“It has been truly exciting to see the progress made during phase 3 of Project Triumph TE 1 with the final prototype motorcycle now going into real-life testing. Everyone involved at Triumph is proud to have been part of this innovative British collaboration. Personally, I am thrilled with the results we have already achieved with our partners, and the exciting preview of the potential electric future to come.” said Nick Bloor, Triumph CEO.
“We look forward to continuing the ambitious and innovative work on the TE-1 demonstrator prototype through the live testing phase and sharing the outcome with Triumph fans across the world.”
