McLaren has been expanding their range for some time now. While in some instances they have added faster and even more dynamic models, they have also incorporated a more practical model, namely the GT. Here we list everything you should know about the British GT.
In this article:
Is the McLaren GT a good car?
Considering that the GT combines sporty performance with some practicality, the model can certainly be considered to be a good car.
Who is the McLaren GT a good car for?
The McLaren GT is a good car for individuals that want to drive their sportscar over longer distances and want additional luggage space. Alternatively, even if some individuals don’t want to cover long distances, the model will accommodate a set of golf clubs in addition to other luggage while remaining sporty.
Is the McLaren GT a good first car?
Sadly, the McLaren won’t necessarily be a good first car due to its sporty nature and price. Furthermore, new drivers will see large insurance premiums attached to owning a McLaren GT.
Is the McLaren GT a good family car?
While McLaren says that this is one of their more practical offerings to own, it still only offers seating for two occupants. Thus, the model won’t necessarily make for a good family vehicle.
Is there a Hybrid McLaren GT?
At the time of writing this article, the McLaren GT is only offered with a 4.0-litre, turbocharged V8 engine without any hybrid technology. The powertrain is capable of 456 kW and 630 Nm of torque and McLaren claims an average fuel consumption figure of 10.8 L / 100 km.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
Despite the fact that McLaren claims that this is a grand tourer, it is really a more supple and comfortable supercar that is better for long journeys. I don’t foresee a Bentley Continental GT customer or one of the large Mercedes-Benz customers going out and buying a GT. But for someone who is out to try and purchase something from the McLaren stable, that is really comfortable relative to other supercars, and wants something not as violently fast as 720S McLaren or GT2 RS Porsche, this is a really good option.

What is the McLaren GT like inside?
While the McLaren GT retains a sportscar profile and seating position, the model is quite spacious on the interior and provides a compliant drive. The interior trim sees leather used on almost all surfaces and gives off a very premium feel once inside. The digital instrument cluster and vertical-oriented central display also give the McLaren GT an almost futuristic feel.
Style
While the is no mistaking that the GT is indeed a McLaren if spotted on the street, it does in many ways depart from the striking design language as seen on other models from the British marque. Upfront the GT offer a more classic sportscar look, the sides are uncluttered and have clean lines but at the rear, the British automaker has incorporated a more dramatic look with the taillamps and large diffuser.
