The Alfa Romeo 4C first arrived in South Africa in 2014 and in 2015, the Italian automaker introduced the 4C Spider. Both received high praise from the media and public and are destined to become future classics. Find out everything we think you should know about the sporty model.
In this article:
Is the Alfa Romeo 4C a good car?
The Alfa Romeo 4C embodies the glamour that Italian sports car manufacturers are known for and yet still at a reasonable price point. While the model won’t be the ideal choice for many car buyers, for those looking for that extra flair, the 4C will be the ideal car.
Who is the Alfa Romeo 4C a good car for?
The Alfa Romeo 4C is a good car for individuals or couples looking for a sports car to add to their garage. While it is not the most practical of choices, it will be a very fun option for weekend excursions. Car collectors might also want to add this to their portfolio as it could become a very sought-after classic in the future.
Is the Alfa Romeo 4C a good first car?
In Dynamic mode, the Alfa Romeo 4C not only demand your full attention but also a skilled driver. Although we might not recommend this for a first-time car buyer, with an advanced driving course and a lot of respect for the accelerator pedal, a new driver could own one without a problem.
Is the Alfa Romeo 4C a good family car?
With a very compact 110-litres of luggage capacity and only two seats, the Alfa Romeo 4C isn’t quite what you would say is a good family car. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Giulia and the latest addition, the Tonale will better suit family use.
Is there a Hybrid Alfa Romeo 4C?
Both the Alfa Romeo 4C coupe and Spider variants are powered by a 1.8-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 177 kW and 350 Nm of torque. No hybrid options were available.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
In this car, most other cars on the road are low-hanging fruit. In almost any gear and at almost any speed, the translation from your right pedal to rushing forward propulsion is addictive. As addictive as your new car computer game, where you stay up way too late at night, just to play “1 more game”. OK, after this one… alright, getting late, but 1 more… and then get up earlier than usual just to get a few rounds in. The 4C Spider is the same game.

What is the Alfa Romeo 4C like inside?
The Alfa Romeo 4C offers premium, leather-clad sports seats as well as premium soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard and door cards. However, as can be expected from a purpose-built sports car there are areas through which some of the body and carbon fibre tub shows. But this doesn’t detract, in-fact it bolsters the character of the car which of course says; lightweight, mid-engined performance sports car. Alfa Romeo did include a digital instrument cluster and a minimalist infotainment system.
Style
Looking at the 4C, it draws a lot of inspiration from the highly-collectable and more powerful 8C model that arrived a few years earlier. However, due to the mid-engine configuration and carbon fibre tub construction, the bonnet is shorter and the space between the cabin and the rear bumper has increased. The 4C does see functional air vents incorporated into the rear fenders which feed cool air to the engine bay while standing behind the model, one can see the powertrain under the rear window or rather an engine cover.
