Over the next three years, the Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) group will launch six new SUVs as part of its Reimagine transformation strategy.
This plan will see all Land Rover and Range Rover model ranges gain an electric variant by 2024, the entire Jaguar brand go all-electric by 2025, and the JLR group become a net carbon-zero business by 2039.
The first step has already been completed and involved launching an all-new flagship, the Range Rover.
This model is available to order in South Africa at a starting price of R2.96 million, with the first customer units expected to arrive at the end of 2022.
In addition, a new Range Rover Sport was also revealed since the turnaround strategy kicked off in 2021, with this SUV reaching local showrooms alongside its bigger brother later this year, although its pricing has yet to be announced.
From now until 2025, here is what you can further expect from the JLR group.
Land Rover Defender 130
Following the two Range Rovers, the next model to be introduced under the JLR umbrella will be the Defender 130.
This is an eight-seater model of the brand’s most-capable vehicle, featuring a cabin seating arrangement in a 2-3-3 configuration – along with “the latest digital technologies and advanced integrated chassis technologies.”
Land Rover recently confirmed that the Defender 130 will be revealed to the world on 31 May 2022. It is expected to go on sale early 2023.
Electric Range Rover
JLR’s biggest SUV will be available with a battery-powered drivetrain by 2024, the company previously told TopAuto.
The Range Rover was built on the in-house “MLA-Flex” architecture which was specially designed to accommodate the electric powertrains that will come to market two years after the SUV made its initial debut.
According to CNET, the flagship will likely get an electric motor on each axle and achieve a driving range in excess of 480km.
Range Rover Evoque
Also in 2024, a new-generation Range Rover Evoque will be unveiled.
However, unlike the current line-up that offers petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, the new model will only be sold with fully-electric and range-extender hybrid options, reported WhatCar.
A range-extender hybrid is a vehicle that is powered by electric motors but is also equipped with a small internal-combustion engine that charges the battery when more range is needed.

Land Rover Discovery Sport
A close cousin to the Evoque, the new Land Rover Discovery Sport will make its debut shortly after the Range Rover and will sit on the same underpinnings.
Thanks to the new chassis that accommodates electric powertrains, interior space is expected to be vastly improved over the outgoing generation.
Additionally, the Discovery Sport will likely feature the same engines as the Evoque, similar to the current models.

High-end Land Rover Defender
According to WhatCar, JLR CEO Thierry Bolloré wants to take both Jaguar and Land Rover even more upmarket.
As a result, a high-end Defender that is based on the foundation of the new Range Rover is rumoured to be in the works, slated to be revealed towards the end of 2024.
Engine options for this Land Rover are expected to comprise mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully-electric power sources.

Land Rover Discovery 6
Bridging the gap between the rugged Defender and ultra-high-end Range Rover is the Land Rover Discovery.
The fourth generation of the middle child will be revealed in 2025 and as it’s the furthest away from production, very little is known about it.
Since its launch, the Discovery 5 and subsequent iterations have been less of a sales success than the new Defender or the old Discovery 4.
It, therefore, remains to be seen what JLR will do with its new Discovery, whether it will still be sat halfway between maximum utility and maximum luxury, or assume a new identity of its own.
However, we can rest assured that it will be offered with electrically-motivated drivetrains.
