Well, it's not hiding anymore.Yamaha just announced that it's going to display and conduct an exhibition run of its YE-01 Racing Concept at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2026 (MXoN 2026). It's going to hit the track at Ernée, France, although it's unclear what day the YE-01 will actually take to the dirt during the event, which runs from October 2-4. Unfortunately, there's no competition for this concept to compete in, but that won't always be the case.This initiative is aimed at eventual participation in MXEP, an electric motocross racing series scheduled to launch in the near future. There's no official date for the MXEP, but based on the work Yamaha has put into the YE-01 already, the company shouldn't be worried when the electric era comes for motocross. So Yamaha Fixed Everything ElseThe aim, according to Yamaha, is to "preserve the core appeal of motocross while proposing a new form of enjoyment that leverages the unique characteristics of electric power. The exhibition run will provide an opportunity to see the appeal of the vehicle and the potential of electric motocross."One surprisingly cool thing about this concept is that it features a mechanical hydraulic, wet, multi-plate clutch. This is in the hopes that the rider can have a similar level of control over the bike and, let's face it, for fun. We don't know much else about the YE-01, in terms of its power unit or battery, apart from the fact that it uses an AC synchronous motor and a lithium-ion battery. This is another step toward Yamaha achieving carbon neutrality throughout its entire supply chain, including the Company's business activities, by 2050, so watch this space for more details.
