On 1 November, 15 VinFast EB8 electric buses entered operation on the route, which connects Thong Nhat Park in central Hanoi with Van Lam in neighbouring Hung Yen province. Manufactured in 2026, the new vehicles each have capacity for 60 passengers and replace the same number of diesel buses previously assigned to the route; the service retains its existing fleet size of 15 vehicles, with 13 in regular operation.

The new buses feature green Hanoibus livery, and are also equipped with low-floor access and facilities for passengers with disabilities, alongside other passenger amenities. The EB 8 is an 8.6-metre midibus equipped with a 200 kW electric motor and a 359 kWh LFP battery. It has a stated range of over 290 km and supports DC fast charging at up to 120 kW.

The conversion follows a broader push by Transerco to electrify its bus operations. During October, the company and its subsidiaries converted six other routes and launched a new service, introducing a total of 94 electric buses.

Transerco aims to increase the proportion of ‘environmentally friendly’ buses in its fleet to more than 51 per cent by the end of 2026. The latest route conversion forms part of Hanoi’s wider efforts to reduce emissions from public transport and expand the use of electric vehicles across its bus network.

The conversion of route 40 follows an earlier deployment of 53 electric buses by Transerco in October, when the operator introduced VinFast vehicles on routes 22a, 22B, 30 and 50 – replacing diesel buses across four services. In April, Transerco also added 120 electric buses to seven routes across the capital.
