Food storage is always the trickiest part of a small van build because standard cooling units take up a massive footprint in the living area. I needed a way to keep my provisions cold without sacrificing precious floor space.The solution? A secret compartment. I designed a custom wooden bench that hides a heavy-duty portable refrigerator right inside the base structure. The construction had to be incredibly precise because a single millimeter off would cause the entire sliding drawer mechanism to jam. I mounted the cooling unit onto professional-grade drawer runners that allow the fridge to slide smoothly into the main walkway when needed. The result? Incredible. The entire unit hides behind a clean white panel that matches the rest of the future kitchen cabinetry perfectly.I shot this progress update on my phone to show the raw step-by-step assembly inside the workshop. The overhead garage lighting was pretty harsh, so I had to find an angle that kept the wood grain visible without blowing out the highlights on the white painted surfaces.
