Small SUVs have taken over the market, and with its strong reliability record, capable AWD system and comfortable driving experience, the Subaru Crosstrek is one of the best choices in the segment. With how competitive the segment has become with the death of the humble hatchback, however, there are lots of Subaru Crosstrek competitors wanting to take its glory. If you're struggling to decide on a subcompact SUV, you've come to the right place. We've listed every rival the Crosstrek goes up against in this handy guide. These cars all have their own USPs and characteristics, but they'll all be easy to drive around town and feature competent handling thanks to their small dimensions. This article features some alternatives to the Subaru Crosstrek in terms of segment and specifications; some competitors may be very different in price or vary in size - we justify why. This list is not exhaustive and considers new cars only with one used model. Specs listed are for two comparable trims from each model, where necessary. Prices are correct at the time of writing, and exclude destination, options, and fees. Manufacturers reserve the right to change prices at any time without notice. We rank these Subaru Crosstrek competitors by MSRP, starting with the highest and finishing with the lowest. 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Overview 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid front, three-quarterWhen we drove the most recent iteration of the Subaru Crosstrek, we fell slightly in love. That was not only thanks to the comfortable and quiet cabin, but also the way it drove. The change from ICE to electric power was smooth, and the off-road-tuned suspension means it's soft enough to deal with bumps. As you'd also expect from a Subaru, the standard symmetrical AWD system performs well on trails. There are two powertrain options: one a simple ICE four-cylinder boxer engine with 180 horsepower, the other a hybrid system with 194 horses. When we drove the hybrid, we found the instant torque was a nice thing to have, and if you want to have some fun on a slippery dirt road, it can also do that. Fuel economy is decent, although buyers with running costs in mind might be better off with some of the other options on this list.Compared to some Crosstrek competitors, this car has a lot of standard features to enhance the driving experience, like X-mode and hill descent control, but inside it's similar to other vehicles. There are only four speakers, a smaller seven-inch infotainment system, although you do get cruise control and keyless entry. The hybrid comes with more as standard, like a power moonroof and heated front seats, but it is more expensive. 2026 Ford Bronco Sport Starting Price: $31,845 2025 Ford Bronco SportThe most expensive option on our list of Subaru Crosstrek alternatives is the Ford Bronco Sport, which is slightly bigger but retains the same trail-ready capabilities of its Japanese rival. The standard 1.5L turbo engine is plenty, with 180 horsepower, and it has a maximum towing capacity of 2,200 lbs. You can also spec this car with a rubberized cargo floor and all-weather floor mats to make sure it's easy to clean after an adventure."As you would expect with off-road-biased suspension and higher-walled tires, the ride is supple on the road and couldn't give a factory full of fudge about the state of the road surface it's riding on. However, the chassis is nicely tuned and we didn't experience any excessive lean or wallowing through corners. It drives like a well-sorted little crossover, and we demand nothing more on the road."- Ian Wright, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzz 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Starting Price: $27,695 2022 - 2025 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 1st Gen (GK_GL_YA) Facelift Side Angle DrivingMitsubishi may be struggling at the moment, but the Eclipse Cross still puts up a fight against cars like Crosstrek. While the next Eclipse Cross is said to be going electric, this one is powered by a 152-hp four-cylinder that sends power to all four wheels as standard. With 37 inches of legroom in the back and 23.4 cubic feet of space in the trunk, this also means that you won't be struggling for space. 2026 Honda HR-V Starting Price: $26,500 2026 Honda HR-V 3rd Gen (RV3_4_5_6) Facelift (25)The Honda HR-V has been one of the longest-lived nameplates in this segment, and the latest generation improves on it with a refined ride, a quieter cabin and increased practicality over the Civic hatchback. There's no standard AWD on any trim, unfortunately, but those with a family will love the fact there's 24.4 cubic feet of space in the trunk and almost 38 inches of legroom at the rear."What the HR-V lacks is the fun factor, but most people won't care, as Honda got all the basics right otherwise. As an everyday small car, there's a lot to love about the new HR-V. If you're looking for something small and regular freeway drives are in the car's future, then that might tip you over the edge when compared to the competition."- Ian Wright, Senior Road Tester, CarBuzz 2026 Buick Encore GX Starting Price: $26,200 2025 Buick Encore GX In ChinaIf you're not bothered by the 'off-road ready' marketing of many small SUVs in 2026, the Buick Encore GX might be more up your street. It focuses on style rather than outright capability, and it has 23.5 cubic feet of space in the back compared to the Subaru's 19.9 cubes. You also get slightly larger wheels, active noise cancellation and remote start on this car, making it a value-packed choice. Those who do highway miles often will prefer the 1.3L turbo engine, however, with the extra power it provides. 2026 Mazda CX-30 Starting Price: $25,975 2025 Mazda CX-30 parked outdoorsThe Mazda CX-30 might not look as tough as other Subaru Crosstrek competitors, but the Japanese marque packs a lot of features into a small car. When you're buying this SUV, you can spec extra accessories like a roof rack, splash guards, and even a pet restraint for furry friends. The optional turbo engine is also pretty potent for the size of this vehicle with 250 horses. 2026 Hyundai Kona Starting Price: $25,500 2025 Hyundai KonaHyundai has made a name for itself at this price point, and the Kona is the closest Subaru Crosstrek rival. Its design is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it situation, as the large plastic fenders and odd light design are unique, although it does help the car stand out. AWD is available from even the base trim, although the weaker engine can be a drag with only 147 horsepower. Inside, the infotainment is a strong point, especially since the same can't be said for the dated screen inside the Subaru. 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Starting Price: $25,035 2023 - 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross HybridIf you're interested in low running costs in cars like Subaru Crosstrek, look no further than the Toyota Corolla Cross. The gas engine can get a respectable 32 mpg, but it's the hybrid that's more impressive, with 42 combined mpg. You're trading a bit of engine refinement for that, though, as it can be slightly harsh under stress. Still, it has more usable space than the Corolla hatchback, especially for passengers in the back, and in the trunk there's 21.5 cubic feet of space. 2026 Kia Seltos Starting Price: $23,790 23353_2026_SeltosWhen we drove this latest generation of Seltos back in 2023, we said it's one of the finest crossovers on the market due to its smart design and affordable price. Passenger space is ample in the back with 41.1 inches of legroom, and we're impressed by the fact that Kia could squeeze in 26.6 cubic feet of space into the back, too. We'd recommend the 190-hp four-cylinder, though, as the 147-hp NA engine might feel breathless on the highway."The majority of the driving experience is great. The steering is accurate, tightening more in sport mode, and the ride is compliant on bumpy roads. We drove the Seltos on the highway for over three hours, and the Bose audio system has no trouble drowning out the minimal road noise, even at a medium volume."- Jared Rosenholtz, Editor-at-Large, CarBuzz 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer Starting Price: $23,300 2024 - 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer 2nd Gen (C1) Facelift (32)Essentially a Buick Encore in a different body, the Chevy Trailblazer undercuts that car by a few thousand dollars. It uses the same three-cylinder setup, and there are multiple styles to choose from. Those who want a more sporty appearance will opt for the RS, while there's a slightly tougher-looking ACTIV trim that also tunes the suspension for off-road use and adds AWD. If you like a blacked-out car, a Midnight Edition will be your choice in this Subaru Crosstrek competitors list. 2026 Nissan Kicks Starting Price: $22,430 2026 Nissan Kicks Yellow FrontThe Nissan Kicks is the cheapest choice out of cars similar to the Crosstrek. That low price doesn't mean it's not big on style, although you may have to spec up to get the most out of it. The base trim's price is pretty aggressive, and there aren't many creature comforts apart from a rearview monitor, remote keyless entry, and wireless CarPlay. Still, if you need cheap cars like Crosstrek models from Subaru, you can't go wrong with the Kicks.Sources: Subaru, EPA, Nissan, Buick, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Ford
