Rivian Axes the Least Expensive R1T and R1S ModelsMichael Simari - Car and DriverRivian has removed the least expensive models from its R1-based pickup and SUV lineups. The Rivian R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck with the Dual Motor, Standard Pack combo depart, leaving the Large pack as the new "standard" battery. This means the R1 lineup just got $7000 more expensive, but you do get more range for that money.Just as Rivian's lineup expands with the addition of the compact R2 SUV, the OG R1 lineup loses its least expensive, lowest range options. The R1S and R1T Dual Motor with Standard battery pack have been removed from the online configurator, as first reported by InsideEVs.Andi Hedrick - Car and DriverThat means the Standard pack is no longer, well, standard on the R1s. Instead, the Dual Motor Large pack models become the new entry-level options; the 2026 R1T pickup in that configuration starts at $81,885, while the R1S Dual Motor Large SUV is $85,885, both of which are $7000 more than their Dual Standard compatriots. The Standard-pack models have a maximum 270 miles of EPA-estimated driving range, while the Large versions up that to as much as 329 miles. That's north of $118 per range-mile.AdvertisementAdvertisementFor reference, the most expensive R2, the Performance with Launch Edition, comes fully loaded for $59,485. It uses that platform's Long Range battery, and Rivian says it can go as far as 330 miles on a charge.RivianThis wasn't a complete surprise, as Rivian had told InsideEVs back in March that the Dual Standard was on its way out. And this creates some more breathing room between the R1 and R2 lineups, potentially paving the way for more expensive R2s in the future. All that said, if you really had your heart set on a new Dual Standard, you may be able to find one in Rivian's current inventory.➡️ Skip the lot.
