Following statement on California legislative updates is attributable to Stephanie Doyle, California state affairs director for the Solar Energy Industries Association: “The solar and storage industry is pleased to see Governor Newsom sign numerous bills that will support reliable electricity generation and transmission and increase access to the cost-saving benefits of solar and storage. SB 913 will modernize rules to allow aggregated distributed energy resources to help stabilize the grid and lower electricity prices at times of peak demand. “We are disappointed to see Governor Newsom continue to prevent the Golden State from establishing a viable, scalable community solar with his veto of AB 1813. The solar industry looks forward to continuing to work with legislators and the next Governor to finally create a community solar program that Californians want and deserve.” SEIA also supported and advocated for the following bills that were signed into law: AB 864 creates a pathway to advance solar panel recycling in the state. AB 1156 will make it easier for farmers to build solar projects on water-starved land where farming is no longer viable, offering them another avenue to generate stable income as they weather a harsh economic climate. AB 2493 will improve transmission buildout. SB 898 legalizes balcony solar. About SEIA®: The Solar Energy Industries Association® (SEIA) is leading the transformation to a clean energy economy.
