Renault/dpaRenault has looked back to one of its most iconic models to create a striking new concept. The original Renault 8 Gordini was launched in 1964 as a performance model that could provide an exciting driving experience at a relatively low cost. Now, the latest concept to revive the Gordini spirit has arrived, imagined through a partnership between Renault and designer Ora.At just over 4 metres long and 1.88m wide, the Renault 8 Gordini Concept is relatively compact and sits on 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the rear. As a two-dour coupe, the concept is slightly different in overall design to the four-door original, yet it still has the same wide rear-end design.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn addition, the new Gordini is powered by a single electric motor with around 270 bhp, somewhat different to the 95-bhp rear-mounted petrol engine.Alexandre Malval, VP Design, Renault, said: "With Renault 8 Gordini Concept, we wanted to spark emotion by drawing on both our heritage and modern times, bringing together the icons of yesterday and the future."This exercise in style sets out to reinvent Renault 8 Gordini for the modern day. The aim of this coupé is to inspire emotion and capture the imagination of all car enthusiasts. And when I talk about emotion, I'm not talking about nostalgia, but real passion for cars."While just a concept for now, the 8 Gordini will be shown off to the public at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October.
