2027 Porsche Macan EV Expert Review
Reviewed by Bob Hernandez
The Macan Electric brings Porsche’s compact luxury SUV into the EV era, pairing everyday usability with the quick response and performance expected of the brand. Its lineup ranges from a rear-drive model focused on range and agility to powerful all-wheel-drive versions, giving buyers several ways to approach the same sporty SUV mission.
Electric compact luxury SUV competitors include Cadillac Optiq, Genesis GV70 Electrified, and Tesla Model Y.
What’s New
Changes are light for 2027. A NACS adapter is now included with every Macan Electric, as are adaptive cruise control, automated parking with a 2D surround-view camera system, and a heated steering wheel.
The GTS and Turbo trims come standard with a 22-kW onboard AC charger, cutting down Level 2 charging times at home. The base, 4, and 4S trims retain the 11-kW charger as standard but offer the 22-kW unit as an option.
What We Think
The Macan Electric is a convincing Porsche: quick, composed, and capable enough to make its size and weight seem to decrease on a winding road. Its precise steering and polished ride give it everyday comfort, too. But that polish can make the experience feel clinical; at ordinary road speeds, the Macan doesn’t always deliver the emotional connection we expect from the brand.
The lineup has different ways of bringing out its character. The rear-drive model feels especially engaging, while the more powerful versions add tremendous pace and grip without sacrificing comfort. Fast charging is another strength, though the Macan’s range is solid rather than exceptional.
The bigger caveat is what Porsche asks buyers to pay—and what the cabin gives back. The price climbs quickly with options, while some materials, controls, and storage solutions feel less considered than they should.

EV Range and Charging
The rear-drive base model offers the longest range in the lineup. With standard 20-inch wheels, it’s EPA-rated for up to 332 miles, though it covered 292 miles in our 70-mph Road-Trip Range test. Choosing 21- or 22-inch wheels lowers the EPA estimate to 309 miles.
Which model has the shortest range depends on how you measure it. The EPA gives the 4S the lowest estimate at 290 miles. In our Road-Trip Range test, however, the GTS covered just 254 miles.
Every Macan Electric has a 100-kWh battery and supports DC fast charging at up to 270 kW. Porsche says charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 21 minutes. For 2027, every model includes a North American Charging System (NACS) adapter for access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Safety Features
Standard driver assist and safety tech includes:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Automatic emergency braking
- Rear cross-traffic monitoring
- Lane departure warning
- Lane change assist
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Automatic high-beams
- Automated parking with a 2D surround view camera
Cargo Space
The Macan EV offers less cargo space than the Cadillac Optiq and Genesis GV60. Its front trunk helps offset the shortfall, offering more space than the GV60’s; the Optiq has no frunk.
Technology
Infotainment
The Macan Electric comes standard with a curved 12.6-inch driver display, a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, several USB ports, and a wireless charging pad.
Sound System
The base Macan Electric comes with a 10-speaker audio system. Higher trims can be equipped with a 14-speaker Bose or 21-speaker Burmester system.
Available Upgrades
Rear-axle steering is the most compelling dynamics upgrade. Porsche says it can improve agility, and we found it helpful on spirited drives. 3D Surround View with Active Parking Support is a practical upgrade for parking and tight spaces.
The Premium package adds comfort features buyers will notice every day, including 14-way power front seats, front-seat ventilation, heated rear seats, four-zone climate control, and Bose audio.
Value
Standard Features
Every model comes with excellent performance chops and quick DC fast charging. The base model is especially engaging to drive with its RWD configuration, and it comes with the most range.
But at well over $80,000, it’s still an expensive compact EV, and adding options can quickly inflate the price. Value depends on how much the Porsche driving experience matters to the buyer; fortunately, the base model doesn’t need a long options list to deliver that.
Recommended Trim
We’d stick with the base rear-drive Macan Electric. It’s the most engaging version to drive, delivers the longest range, and doesn’t charge extra for performance most drivers won’t use every day.
