Polaris's New SxS Brings 275 HP to 10,000 FeetPolarisIf high-performance off-roading is your pastime, you're likely already familiar with the Polaris RZR lineup. The RZR is one of the best-selling side-by-side offerings, offering everything from an entry-level rig on up to a full factory-backed racer. And Polaris is even taking things a step further for the 2027 model year with the introduction of the RZR Pro R Boost, which arrives with the brand's first turbocharged powertrain.The RZR Pro R Boost aims to set the new benchmark for SxS performance, arriving as the most powerful entry in the entire segment. The package is centered around a turbocharged version of the brand's home-built 2.0-liter ProStar Fury engine, which here 275 horsepower. For reference, the standard Pro R makes 225 hp from its naturally aspirated four-pot, while the Kawasaki Teryx H2's engine is good for 250 hp. The new engine is designed to provide peak power all the way up to 10,000 feet of elevation, ensuring you can tackle mountainous trail rides without hesitation. (The turbo also brings the added benefit of quieting the RZR down a bit, which is a welcome change for anyone who has done a long ride in one of these things.)PolarisThe Pro R's CVT gearbox has also been updated to handle the extra output, with additional tweaks coming to help with quality of life when you're on a ride. A new clutching system with improved airflow should also help prevent the CVT from experiencing any unwanted drops in performance due to heat build up. The engine itself also receives a revised cooling system, with dedicated coolers for both the turbo and gearbox as well.AdvertisementAdvertisementPolaris has also made sure that the rest of the Pro R's driveline has been beefed up with items like larger half shafts to take the extra torque. Every Pro R Boost will come in either Ultimate or Ultra spec, with the former rocking a Dynamix suspension setup while the Ultra models adopt the race-proven Dynamix DVS system, which brings the SxS industry's first active sway bar links. The pack also brings highlights like a carbon hood, a genuine racing wheel, upgraded BFGoodrich 32-inch tires, and a bespoke color and graphics order sheet.Having spent a good amount of time in various RZR models over the years, horsepower was never high on my list of wants. That said, I can't help but think that this thing will be a proper hooligan when it hits the trails.
