Perodua will be taking part at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2026 this June 12-21, and the automaker has indicated in a social media post that its showcase will reflect on the journey it has taken so far and also “look ahead to what’s next in creating a more connected, sustainable future for Malaysia.” Pointers in the accompanying graphic steer towards the usual conversations about electrification and connectivity as well as elements about next-gen mobility being discussed, but the graphic also interestingly outlines the side silhouette of a sedan, so the ‘what’s next’ moment could possibly also drop hints about the continuity of its longest-serving model. The Bezza has been around since 2016, and a replacement is well overdue. Back in December 2023, it was mentioned that a new Bezza was still a few years away, but that timeline is fast approaching. A concept based along sedan lines, should that be shown at the event, would suggest that the new car is finally on the way, although it will still likely be another year or so at least before anything final appears on the horizon. New Perodua Bezza renders by Theophilus Chin. Since we’re on that topic, let’s recap what we can expect when it does come, which is that under new skin will sit a DNGA-based platform. In terms of powertrains, things should continue with the existing 1KR-VE 1.0 litre three-cylinder and 1NR-VE 1.3 litre four-cylinder engines, paired with a Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT), a move on from the present four-speed automatic transmission. There’s also the possibility of a hybrid option being offered, something that Perodua has long hinted. Will ADAS and full-fledged connectivity also be present? Well, that should be the plan, aside from also making the car an ASEAN offering, as indicated by Perodua VP Datuk Ahmad Suhaimi Hashim back in 2023. “We are looking for a balance between looks and functionality as well as a broader appeal to not only the Malaysian market but beyond. We want to equip this new car with the latest safety and connectivity features as well as within a price range that is typical of our products,” he said then. So, a sedan study, even in scale form, at the show would indicate that a new Bezza is finally around the corner. The question is, will there be one, or will the wait stretch out longer?
