The German luxury carmaker assembles only the top-end 400 4MATIC variant of the electric GLC in India. It launched the model immediately after the roll-out and offers it in only one trim, AMG Line, for a price of 7.85 million rupees (approx. €73,800 euros), excluding registration cost, insurance, and 1 per cent TCS (Tax Collected at Source).
The electric GLC is only about 2 per cent more expensive than the entry-level combustion-engined GLC, the retail prices of which start at 7.70 million rupees (~€72,400 euros). Launched in 2016, the latter is subject to 40 per cent GST (Goods and Services Tax), while its MB.EA-M platform-based electric sibling attracts 5 per cent GST. This has allowed the company to price it very close to the ICE model.
Speaking at the launch, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer said that the company plans to begin deliveries of the electric GLC during Diwali, which falls on 8 November this year and is traditionally a peak period for car sales, particularly in the luxury segment. The company has already received more than 1,000 bookings for the new EV. “This car is sold out till March of ’27, and now I’m requesting my board and colleagues back in Stuttgart to get us more cars, more kits, so that we can produce more here,” Iyer said.
Senior figures from Mercedes-Benz’s global leadership, including Supervisory Board Chairman Martin Brudermueller and CEO Ola Kallenius, also attended the event. “The GLC is our best-selling model. Here in India, it’s been on the roads for a decade now, with more than 22,000 units sold, and I’m sure the electric GLC will build on that success. In fact, it has already set off at full speed. More than 550 pre-bookings in the first 36 hours. This is a new record for us in India,” Kallenius said.
The electric GLC 400 4MATIC sports two motors, one on each axle, producing 360 kW and 800 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/h. A 94 kWh battery pack, chargeable at up to 330 kW, powers the motors, and it delivers a WLTP range of 711 km, a figure also certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
