Ionna RechargeryCEO Seth Cutler knows EVs are the future but that customers need better education about range and charging.Sometimes the teachers need teaching. In this case, those teachers are dealership salespeople, and automaker-backed charging network Ionna wants to make sure they're properly educating customers about EVs. Not everyone who walks into a dealership understands how the electric charging network works, how vast it is, or how quick cars are to charge. And that's where Ionna comes in.Ionna CEO Seth Culter told Business Insider that it will be training dealership staff at a few hundred locations in major U.S. cities, as he feels it's the company's duty to help push EV adoption along."I tell people, if at the end of this decade, we haven't helped move the needle along on EV adoption, then Ionna's failed," he said. The education push will kick off in early 2027 across dealerships from Ionna's backers, Business Insider reports, which are General Motors, Stellantis, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Mercedes.Hyundai and Genesis EVs at a Ionna stationIonna has grown considerably this year. It now operates 191 charging stations, per BI, which is about 100 more than it did to start the year. The 200th location is set to open in October, too. So the brand's expansion has been quick, in no small part due to its massive automaker backing. It's trying to make a big dent in EV charging and has big goals: 30,000 plugs in North America by 2030. But it still has a hill to climb.Walmart has 300 stations and counting. And it's miles behind Tesla, which has over 3,000 Supercharger stations peppered across the country. However, Ionna is trying to separate itself with improved facilities that offer convenience stores, full-time bathrooms, and even window squeegees, just like typical gas stations. There are even Amazon Just Walk Out stores at some locations. They aren't Tesla Diners, but when customers realize that public charging doesn't mean being stuck sitting in their car for an hour while the car chargers, they might feel differently about picking up that new EV.We've all heard unfortunate stories of dealership staff who were unequipped or unwilling to explain the ins and outs of EV ownership to an eager customer. So Ionna's education push could help it too; because every new EV owner is a potential Ionna customer too. Here be some similar storiesIonna Has Doubled Its Charging Network This Year.
