The Honda Civic Type R, through its years has traditionally provided the basis for many an outfit to render their performance-enhancing nous, and the latest FL5-generation car is no exception. Shown at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon is the Honda Civic Type R ARTA GT, named for the input from the Autobacs Racing Team Aguri, a stalwart of the Super GT racing series in Japan where the outfit races the Civic Type R-GT in the GT500 class. The Type R aesthetic has always been assertive to begin with, even in FL5 form, and the limited-run ARTA GT goes further with aero alterations that yield improved stability at speed, and an even more aggressive look. Widened further from the base car, the ARTA GT measures 4,635 mm long, 1,955 mm wide and 1,395 mm tall. Bodywork specific to the ARTA GT includes the front bumper, front grille and front fenders, along with front under-spoiler and front canards made of carbon-fibre. Alterations to the bonnet include centre and side ducts. At the rear, the fenders are two-piece units, while the rear half-bumper assembly, rear bumper side fins, rear wing and its end plates are also made of carbon-fibre. Wing mounts and a bootlid spoiler complete the ARTA GT-specific exterior alterations, while the ARTA Orange paint is a cost option. Powertrain upgrades are comprised of an ARTA x HKS exhaust systems, an ARTA x HKS intercooler kit, a HKS ECU and sports turbine kit, HKS oil cooler kit, and a Cusco Type-RS limited-slip differential. Chassis upgrades include forged 18-inch wheels by ARTA, shod in Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RZ tyres measuring 295/35R18, and a two-way adjustable spring and damper kit by KW. Braking is by AP Racing Pro 5000R six-piston front brake calipers with semi-metallic pads on 365 mm two-piece rotors, while the rear standard disc and caliper set also get semi-metallic pads and stainless steel-braided brake lines. The interior gets worked on as well, with the ARTA GT getting a pair of Recaro RSS ASM Limited bucket seats, a quick-release Sparco steering wheel, and a steering wheel switch housing to migrate functions from the road car’s standard multifunction unit. The price for this even more performance-focused Civic Type R is 13,500,000 yen (RM346k), for the kit including installation and painting, on top of a standard FL5 Civic Type R to begin with. The price tag won’t be the only hurdle to ownership; limited to 20 units, build slots for the ARTA GT will be offered to customers via lottery. “If possible, we wanted to approach it with the same mindset as building a GT500 machine, pushing every boundary. We aimed for something as bold as the GT models coming out of Europe,” said ARTA founder Aguri Suzuki. “The element we obsessed over most, both visually and functionally, was the aero package. Given the car’s potential, we refined it repeatedly to achieve stability at medium and high speeds,” said Super GT racer – and Drift King – Keiichi Tsuchiya.
