Giorgio Moroder’s Cizeta-Moroder V16T Prototype Could Fetch $1.8 Million at AuctionHere's your chance to add a supercar named after the "Father of Disco" to your collection. The original 1988 Cizeta-Moroder V16T prototype will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby's later this month. The vehicle isn't just the first example of one of the more outlandish automobiles of its era; it's also the only one that spent time in the collection of its namesake, legendary music producer Giorgio Moroder.AdvertisementAdvertisementMore from Robb ReportDavid Zwirner, Pace, and More Top Galleries Will Be Part of a New Contemporary Art Festival in N.Y.C.This Burgundy Chateau Was Transformed Into a Luxe Hotel Perched Above 12th-Century Wine CellarsThis $27 Million Duplex Penthouse Lords Over New York's Upper West SideThe V16T was born out of a partnership between Moroder and former Lamborghini engineer and test driver Claudio Zampolli. The two men met at an exotic car shop in Los Angeles during the 1980s and decided to turn their shared love of automobiles into a car of their own. The result was a supercar that paired an over-the-top design by the legendary Marcelo Gandini with a massive V-16. The car would make its debut at the 1988 Los Angeles Motor Show, but wouldn't go into production until 1991, by which point the relationship between Moroder and Zampolli had fallen apart. Just 10 examples would end up being built, and the prototype is the only one to bear the musician's name. The one up for auction, chassis no. 001, was part of Moroder's personal car collection up until 2022. It is finished in a stunning coat of pearl white and features a red-leather interior. A transverse-mounted 6.0-liter V-16 originally rated for 540 hp sits in the engine bay and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle was fully restored by Canepa Design in 2018 and detailed by Rex Nguyen in 2024, according to the auction house. It and all of its more ridiculous features, like its double-stack headlights, are also said to be fully functional.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe winning bidder won't just get an ultra-rare supercar, though. The lot also includes a one-of-one NFT—remember those?—that includes an E.P. with four songs composed by Morodern himself. Also included is a 3-D artistic rendering by digital artist "Soulajit," a 3-D scan of the vehicle, and digitized documentation.Of course, all of that won't come cheap. RM Sotheby's expects the V16T prototype to sell for between $1.4 million and $1.8 million when it crosses the block at the auction house's annual Monterey Car Week sale, which will run from Thursday, Aug. 13, to Saturday, Aug. 15. The low end of the estimate is still $36,500 more than the vehicle sold for the last time it went up for grabs in 2022.Best of Robb ReportThe 2024 Chevy C8 Corvette: Everything We Know About the Powerful Mid-Engine BeastThe World's Best Superyacht ShipyardsThe ABCs of Chartering a YachtSign up for RobbReports's Newsletter.
