Genesis revealed the GV80 HEV, its first hybrid vehicle. The GV80 HEV will go on sale next month with an all-new hybrid system that delivers an “EV-like” drive and roughly a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency. Genesis GV80 HEV debuts with an all-new hybrid system While Genesis initially planned to sell only electric vehicles starting last year, the luxury brand delayed its EV-only future, announcing plans to launch its first hybrid and extended-range models. The GV80 HEV will be the first to debut with the next-generation Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System, when it goes on sale next month. Genesis said the setup will deliver a “refined” and “EV-Like” driving experience. The new system uses a parallel hybrid setup, consisting of a starter-generator motor that handles engine starting and power, and a drive motor for propulsion and regenerative braking. It’s also the first Hyundai Motor Group hybrid system with a liquid-cooled battery that improves efficiency and enables higher maximum discharge output. Genesis developed the system with an “EV Mode” that remains active until the vehicle reaches about 19 mph (30 km/h) to minimize vibration and noise. It’s designed for use in parking garages, on city streets, and in stop-and-go traffic. Once the vehicle exceeds a certain speed limit, the engine is engaged. The setup delivers a combined 347 horsepower (352 PS) and 390 lb-ft of torque, about 16% and 26% improvements over the current GV80 2.5 Turbo model. The advancements enable the GV80 HEV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100km/h) in about 7.1 seconds. It features the new Crest Grille design and wheels. Inside, the new model will be available with four new two -tone color combinations, including Obsidian Black with Taiga Green and Ultramarine Blue with Travertine Beige. Two new wood trim options and new quilting patterns will also be available. The GV80 HEV is set to launch next month, the first to debut with the new Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System.
