Every Ford Truck Is Changing for 2027. Here’s What’s New for Each Model and What’s Coming SoonMotorTrendBob HernandezThu, September 17, 2026 at 7:27 PM UTCAdd us on Google2027 Ford Truck Lineup Updates and ChangesFordFord's truck lineup is evolving in several directions for 2027. Some models receive meaningful mechanical and equipment changes, and some mostly stay the course as Ford lays the groundwork for a new generation of electrified pickups. Here's what's changing now, plus a look at what's coming next.1) 2027 Ford F-150Photo credit: FordThe F-150 gets a meaningful powertrain reshuffle for 2027. A new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 replaces the outgoing 2.7-liter and becomes standard on several XL, STX, XLT, and Lariat configurations. The 5.0-liter V-8 also becomes newly optional on King Ranch and Platinum, while Tremor buyers can now specify a Torsen front differential as a standalone option.Ford also makes several equipment and appearance changes. The new Lariat Chrome Appearance package adds chrome bumpers, door handles, mirror caps, and—depending on equipment group—chromelike wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, and bright step bars. Other changes include revised grilles and wheel designs, standard body-color bumpers on XLT 302A, new Birch Sand, Neptune Blue, and Wild Green paint colors, and a reshuffling of equipment groups that deletes the STX FX4 201A, XLT 303A, and 157-inch-wheelbase Lariat 500A. New lower-equipment Tremor and Raptor variants also make the off-road models more accessible.AdvertisementAdvertisementBlueCruise gets a new towing function that allows hands-free driving while pulling a trailer weighing up to 10,000 pounds. The system's 2027 purchase choices are also reorganized around a 90-day trial, a one-year-plus-90-day plan, and a seven-year one-time purchase. The existing Ford Security package carries over, but buyers can now purchase seven years of coverage up front; its features include theft alerts, start inhibit, and stolen-vehicle services, with deductible reimbursement available in select states.MotorTrend Ranked: #2 in best full-size trucksRead Our Experts' Full Ford F-150 Review2) 2027 Ford MaverickPhoto credit: MotorTrendFord also makes moves with the Maverick's powertrain lineup for 2027. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost is no longer offered with front-wheel drive, and Ford deletes the EcoBoost AWD configurations of both the XL and Lariat. That leaves the XL and Lariat as hybrid-only models, with front- or all-wheel drive, while EcoBoost buyers can still choose the XLT AWD, Lobo, or Tremor.AdvertisementAdvertisementA new Bronze appearance package is available on XLT 301A and Lariat 501A, combining 19-inch Sinister Bronze wheels with bronze-accented lower-door and tailgate graphics, a bronze front valance and fender badge, plus a black roof, grille, mirrors, and interior accents.Ford also introduces a Lariat Luxury package with an eight-speaker B&O audio system, LED bed lighting, a 400-watt Pro Power Onboard inverter, wireless phone charging, and, on Lariat, a power-sliding rear window. The package is included with the high-spec Lobo 702A.Other changes include new Neptune Blue, Gladwin Green, and Glacier Gray paint colors, an available sport-compound 19-inch tire for Lobo, and revised FX4 packaging. FX4 is now included with XLT 302A, no longer requires the XLT Luxury package, and loses its unique 18-inch wheel. The 4K Tow package also no longer requires Ford Co-Pilot360. Most Mavericks now get a tire inflator and sealant kit instead of the previously standard compact spare, and Ford adds an optional SecuriCode keypad and Ford Security package.AdvertisementAdvertisementMotorTrend Ranked: #1 in best compact trucks (2026 model)Read Our Experts' Full Ford Maverick Review3) 2027 Ford RangerPhoto credit: MotorTrendThe biggest likely addition is the rumored return of the Ranger Tremor. Ford has confirmed a North American Tremor is arriving later in 2026, positioning it between the regular Ranger's FX4 package and the more extreme Raptor.Based on Ranger Tremor models sold overseas, expect upgraded suspension with upgraded dampers, additional ground clearance, more aggressive all-terrain tires, and unique exterior trim. The U.S. truck is expected to use an EcoBoost gasoline engine rather than the diesel offered in other markets.AdvertisementAdvertisementBeyond Tremor, we expect the 2027 Ranger to receive relatively modest equipment and appearance updates rather than a wholesale redesign.MotorTrend Ranked: #1 in best midsize pickup trucks (2026 model)Read Our Experts' Full Ford Ranger Review4) 2027 Ford Super DutyPhoto credit: FordFord streamlines the Super Duty's engine lineup for 2027. The 6.8-liter gas V-8 and standard-output 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel are dropped, leaving the 7.3-liter gas V-8 standard on F-250 and F-350 models and the 6.7-liter high-output Power Stroke as the sole diesel option; the high-output engine is now standard on the F-450.Off-road choices expand, too. The Tremor package is newly available on XL models with the STX and Driver Assist packages, and XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum buyers can now pair Tremor hardware with the 8-foot bed and 176-inch wheelbase.AdvertisementAdvertisementFord also adds an XL Off-Road 35-Inch Tire package, essentially giving work-truck buyers much of the Tremor's hardware: 35-inch tires, a factory ride-height increase, performance shocks, limited-slip front and locking rear differentials, skidplates, Rock Crawl mode, Trail Control, and Trail Turn Assist—without Tremor graphics.A new Super Duty Carhartt package is available on XLT Crew Cab 4x4 single-rear-wheel trucks. It combines a dark-painted grille, unique 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, off-road running boards, Carhartt graphics and fender vents, a Carhartt-branded spray-in bedliner, and a cabin with unique gray cloth seats, contrasting stitching, a themed steering wheel, and all-weather floormats.Other 2027 changes include new Neptune Blue and Iconic Silver paint, newly available 20-inch wheel designs, and a digital rearview mirror. Ford also makes the F-250 High Capacity Axle Upgrade available with the high-output diesel.MotorTrend Ranked: #2 in best heavy-duty trucksAdvertisementAdvertisementRead Our Experts' Full Ford Super Duty Review5) 2028 Ford FathomPhoto credit: Andrei Avarvarii - MotorTrendFord's next electric pickup will introduce an entirely new nameplate—and an entirely new EV architecture. The 2028 Fathom is expected to be the first production model based on Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle platform, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. Ford says the four-door, five-seat truck will start at just under $30,000, putting it remarkably close to the Maverick in price. The base Fathom will use a rear-mounted electric motor and lithium-iron-phosphate battery, and all-wheel drive will add a second motor up front. A larger battery with more range will also be available, though Ford has not yet released output, range, towing, or payload figures.Despite its low price, confirmed features include a large touchscreen, Apple Maps–based navigation and charging planning, a phone-as-key function, bidirectional power capability, a front trunk, and available BlueCruise hands-free driving. Ford also says the cabin will provide more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4.AdvertisementAdvertisementRead Our Experts' Full Ford Fathom Review6) Ford F-150 Lightning EREV: Future ModelPhoto credit: MotorTrendFord is not giving up on the F-150 Lightning name, but the next version will take a very different approach. Instead of a pure battery-electric powertrain, the next-generation Lightning will be an extended-range EV (EREV), using a large battery and electric motors for propulsion while an internal combustion engine operates as a generator. Ford says the setup will deliver more than 700 miles of total range and improve towing usability, addressing one of the biggest weaknesses of the discontinued all-electric Lightning. Many details remain unknown, including the generator engine, battery size, electric-motor output, charging speed, towing capacity, and even the model year. We also don't yet know how much of the old Lightning's character will carry over. It'd be nice if Ford preserved its quick acceleration and quiet ride while improving charging performance, body control, interior quality, and especially range while towing.7) 2027 Ford Trucks: What's NewPhoto credit: Andrei Avarvarii - MotorTrend2027 Ford F-150: Significant update2027 Ford Maverick: Minor update2027 Ford Ranger: Minor update2027 Ford Super Duty: Significant update2028 Ford Fathom: All-new modelFord F-150 Lightning EREV: Future model
