BYD Mansion @ Macalister Penang will be opening its doors this year BYD Sime Motors is expanding its retail and aftersales network this year to serve its customers more effectively. The official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia has a footprint of over 40 showrooms nationwide, and is on track to have 34 aftersales touchpoints in 2026 when nine new service centres are complete. The brand has been extending its presence beyond major urban centres. In Johor, it opened outlets in Muar and Kluang, and in the East Coast, BYD Kuala Terengganu joins facilities in Kuantan and Kota Bharu. The northern region saw the debut of BYD in Sungai Petani, Juru and Ipoh. BYD has 12 body and paint outlets nationwide too. The wide and growing network matches the brand’s size – it has been Malaysia’s top EV brand for three consecutive years. Last year, BYD delivered 14,407 units, a 68% increase over 2024. Last year, BYD was No.6 in the overall brands chart, or No.4 in the non-national segment. BYD Sungai Petani Growth has been fast – after acquiring its first 10,000 customers in 20 months, the next 10,000 came in just 13 months. BYD Sime Motors says that it’s on track to reach the 30,000 customers mark next month. “These milestones reflect the strong partnership between BYD and Sime Motors, as well as our shared commitment to raising the standards of EV ownership in Malaysia. A comprehensive network allows BYD to provide robust support throughout the ownership lifecycle as well as greater resale confidence. Each of our newest outlets are designed to deliver a more refined showroom experience, reflecting BYD’s promise to combine advanced technology with a premium, customer-centric environment,” said Eagle Zhao, MD of BYD Malaysia. “As the nation’s leading BEV brand, our focus is clear as we move forward. We will prioritise the needs of Malaysians as we continue to grow our nationwide network and strengthen every customer touchpoint. We are also grateful for the trust of our BYD community and remain firm in supporting them with ever increasing convenience, confidence and care,” he added. “Despite operating in an increasingly competitive market, we have proven our capability and resilience. This year presents a fresh opportunity to further strengthen BYD’s nationwide presence with the focus on providing a more premium and elevated customer experience and delivering intelligent, zero-emission mobility solutions. We believe this is fundamental to spurring greater EV adoption in Malaysia,” said Jeffrey Gan, MD of Southeast Asia, Sime Motors. By the way, the spectacular-looking showroom in the lead image above is the BYD Mansion that will open its doors this year. Located on Macalister Road in Penang, the flagship outlet has a glass structure encasing a heritage building, with the original structure’s facade prominent at the front. BYD says that it ‘features the integration of local cultural elements into its design philosophy, creating a premium, unique space’. The company adds that its continued investment in aftersales infrastructure ‘directly addresses customer concerns about maintenance and downtime’. Support is provided by a pool of 80 EV-certified technicians trained at the BYD Academy, alongside a centralised parts warehouse that ensures efficient parts availability.
