BMW Is Already Expanding Its New 450 Platform, And We’re Here For ItRideApart[email protected] (Enrico Punsalang)Sat, September 26, 2026 at 12:20 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleBMW Is Already Milking Its New 450 Platform, And We're Here For ItThe F 450 GS has barely settled in and BMW already appears ready to turn its new twin into an entire family.BMW spent all that time developing a new small-displacement parallel-twin platform, so there was approximately zero chance it was going to build one adventure bike and call it a day. Sure enough, the F 450 GS has barely had time to get comfortable before BMW started teasing what appears to be its road-going sibling. And if you enjoy watching manufacturers squeeze every possible motorcycle out of one engine, welcome to the fun part.BMW Motorrad has teased a new naked bike ahead of an October 1 reveal, and while the company hasn't officially confirmed the name yet, pretty much every arrow points toward F 450 R. The silhouette shows a compact streetfighter with 17-inch wheels, a muscular tank, an upright handlebar, USD forks, and none of the F 450 GS's adventure-bike furniture. In other words, BMW appears to have taken its new ADV platform and sent it directly to the street.BMW Is Already Milking Its New 450 Platform, And We're Here For ItUnderneath, the obvious candidate is the F 450 GS's 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin. In the GS, it makes 48 horsepower, which puts it right at the limit for Europe's A2 license category. BMW originally previewed the platform as a lightweight 450 twin specifically designed around that performance ceiling, and the production F 450 GS now sits among the newest models in BMW's lineup.AdvertisementAdvertisementA naked version makes almost too much sense. BMW can ditch the windscreen and ADV bodywork, shorten the suspension, fit street tires, tweak the geometry, and suddenly it has something aimed directly at motorcycles like the KTM 390 Duke, CFMoto 450NK, Kawasaki Z500, and Honda CB500 Hornet. Reports surrounding the teaser also suggest the roadster could use a slightly different engine tune to better suit street riding.Small Bikes, FTWBig Motorcycles Have A Problem: Small Bikes Are Getting Too Damn GoodRoyal Enfield Wants To Prove You Don't Need A Giant Bike To Tour America2021 BMW G 310 GS Parked2021 BMW G 310 R - Riding2023 BMW G 310 RR - MainBut this is where things get more interesting. Once BMW has an adventure bike and a naked bike sitting on the same architecture, a fully faired sportbike becomes the painfully obvious third child. Call it an F 450 RR, F 450 S, or something else entirely. Take that same twin, give it clip-ons, sharper bodywork, road-focused suspension, and styling inspired by the S 1000 RR, and BMW suddenly has an answer to the Aprilia RS 457, Kawasaki Ninja 500, and CFMoto 450SS.I mean, we've seen it before with the G 310 series which started out with the naked R, the adventure GS, and the sporty RR. Clearly, history seems to be repeating itself.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe F 450 GS may have introduced BMW's new 450 platform, but it's increasingly looking like it was only the opening act. And if the rumored F 450 R is indeed what BMW reveals on October 1, we'd better start saving a spot in the garage for whatever version gets fairings next.Source: BMW Motorrad, Speedweek
