The new Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class has arrived. This seven-seater SUV, initially introduced as the GL in 2006, is now in its third generation, introduced for the 2020 model year and facelifted this past week. The model offers a blend of family-friendly practicality and luxury, constantly reinventing itself to stay ahead of the curve. We have taken a look at some of the new GLS’ most interesting features: from advanced tech to an intelligent suspension and everything in between, this is how the 2027 GLS elevates the three-row SUV experience for both driver and passengers. A Stylish, Refreshed Look 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Static The GLS’s design has been given an update for 2027. The front bumper has been redesigned, with a black panel connecting the radiator grille and the headlights for a sleek, stylish look. The headlights themselves – along with the tail lights – feature the Mercedes-Benz star design. The standing Mercedes-Benz star on the hood is also a new feature, paying homage to the iconic S-Class. For customers who want to elevate their vehicle’s style even further, an optional illuminated star is also available. Two additional choices of color have been added to the palette: Dark Petrol and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic. There are also several new wheel designs available to choose from (two 21-inch designs and two 22-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels). Next-Level Ride Comfort 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Front End CloseupRide quality is a crucial part of the occupants’ experience when traveling in the GLS. The vehicle is fitted with Airmatic air suspension, equipped with cloud-based damper regulation which automatically adjusts damping before hitting a bump in the road. There is also an optional intelligent suspension system called E-Activ Body Control, which takes ride comfort a step further with control units that analyze the driving situation 1,000 times per second and adapt the suspension in response. The system includes five multi-core processors and over 20 sensors, which allows it to respond quickly to any type of terrain and enable a number of different handling characteristics. There are also special off-road driving modes, which allow the system to adapt to a journey off the beaten track. State-Of-The-Art Tech 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Interior The GLS is equipped with MB.OS, the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, which controls every aspect of the vehicle. Thanks to powerful chips, assistance from AI, and the use of the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, the system keeps the vehicle running smoothly and keeps it up to date with over-the-air updates. Customers can also use the MB.OS to customize their GLS with entertainment and productivity apps, driver assistance features, and on-demand functions. At the heart of the GLS’ infotainment is the MBUX Superscreen, which incorporates three 12.3-inch displays. Relevant information and recently used apps are displayed in the “Zero Layer” for ease of access. An optional 3D instrument cluster is also available. A Flat-Plane V8 In A World Of Cross-Planes 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Static One of the most fascinating features of the new GLS is its engine lineup, more specifically one of the two engine options on offer. A flat-plane V8 in a luxury SUV is quite unusual, but that’s exactly the route Mercedes has chosen to go down with the new GLS.We’re talking about the M177 Evo, a 4.0-liter V8 engine with a flat-plane crankshaft that made its debut in the 2027 S-Class just a few weeks ago. As suggested by its name, this engine is an evolution of the M177. It can be found at the heart of the GLS 580, the more powerful of the two models in the lineup with an output of 530 horsepower. Its less-powerful sibling is the GLS 450, equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 375 hp. 4Matic All-Wheel-Drive 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Dynamic All models in the 2027 GLS lineup are equipped with the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, a feature Mercedes first introduced in 1985 and which has continually been refined and improved since. Thanks to the Torque on Demand function, the modern 4Matic system is capable of adjusting distribution of power between the front and rear axles (between 0–100 percent) depending on the driving situation, maximizing traction and improving handling on every type of terrain. With the 4Matic system on board, the new GLS keeps its occupants safe while offering a good driving experience irrespective of what the road surface or weather conditions look like. High-Tech Driving Assistance Systems 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Details The model is packed with advanced driver assistance features, which help make every part of the journey easier, from driving down the highway to parking. The Digital Extra: MB.Drive Parking Assist function detects parking spaces automatically, and can assist with leaving a parking space even if the vehicle was previously parked manually. When performing your own maneuvers, a 360-degree camera offers improved surround view, while the Digital Extra: Rim Protection Warning function helps avoid damage to the wheels when navigating tight spaces.A “City Pro” feature, which will take the assistance even further and enable a seamless point-to-point driving experience in urban traffic, is not yet offered but will become available later on. Huge Amounts Of Screen Estate 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Interior The interior has been given an upgrade for 2027, with new comfort features, new trim elements, and a refreshed style. The MBUX Superscreen includes atmospheric ambient styles with animated elements, which create a personalized atmosphere in the cabin and change the overall color scheme of the display. On either side of the Superscreen, the climate control air vents are now round rather than angular, and come with integrated ambient lighting. The seats’ upholstery design has been changed, with moccasin stitching adding an extra layer of style. The seats offer functions like high-tech ventilation and upgraded massage functions, for the ultimate comfortable ride. Some additional colors are now available to choose from, including a two-tone Beech Brown/Black combination for the upholstery and two new trim finishes (Natural Grain Dark Brown Birch Wood and Natural Grain Brown Walnut Wood). Entertainment For The Whole Family 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Static The GLS’ next-level infotainment system isn’t confined to the front of the vehicle. There is also a Rear Seat Entertainment System available as part of an option package, which provides second-row passengers with two 11.6-inch infotainment displays. They are equipped with integrated HD cameras for video conferencing on the go, as well as offering audio and video streaming and other content. The system can be controlled either via touchscreens or optional remote controls. Rear-seat passengers also have the opportunity to control comfort features including window blinds and climate control, for the ultimate travel experience. Bluetooth or wired headphones can be connected to the system for audio streaming, in order to have the ultimate personalized experience without disturbing other passengers. Clean Air On Every Journey 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Interior Among the many ways Mercedes has ensured the GLS’ occupants have a pleasant experience in the vehicle, we find advanced air purifying, courtesy of a multi-stage filtration system. Several layers of air filters make sure that both larger and smaller particles do not reach the cabin. The “Energizing Air Control” system monitors air quality both inside and outside the vehicle, using fine dust and air quality sensors. These devices are used to determine the level of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and fine dust particles of size PM2.5 in the outside air. The system automatically switches between fresh air and recirculation mode based on the resulting data. Next-Generation Lighting 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 Exterior Dynamic One of the many components of the GLS that has been given an upgrade for 2027 is the lighting. The new-generation Digital Light system uses powerful chips and micro-LED technology to increase the lighting field and brightness. The new lights are also far more efficient, consuming up to 50 percent less energy than the previous generation and weighing around 25 percent less. There is also a partial high-beam function, available on this model in the US for the first time. This function uses camera data and map information to respond to the road ahead, improving the detection of poorly lit road users without dazzling others.Sources: Mercedes-Benz
