The new 2024 Lotus Eletre SUV will be available in three trims

Jumping into the EV sphere with both feet (or all four tires, as it were) Lotus showed off its all-electric Eletre a few months ago. Now, the company is ready to talk numbers — and they’re deeply impressive.

There will be three trims: Eletre, Eletre S, and Eletre R. The first two crank out 603 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque, numbers which are more than adequate for an SUV in this segment. Cranking the wick is the R, which belts out a stunning 905 electric ponies and 727 lb-ft of twist. Acceleration will be brisk, with the 600-horse trims reaching highway speeds in 4.5 seconds; and the R turning the same trick in less than 3.0 ticks.

Referencing the endlessly optimistic European WLTP test cycle, the Eletre and Eletre S are said to get 600 kilometres of driving range on a full charge, with the more powerful R limited to about 100 fewer. Expect official numbers south of those figures when North American certification teams perform their tests.

Despite gearheads generally associating the Lotus brand with featherweight mass, engineers are not yet ready to tell us how much the Eletre weighs. They will say that all trims receive a battery with 112 kWh of capacity, suggesting that all three trims will bend the scale to roughly the same degree. The Eletre has a stated length of 5,103 mm (200.9 inches) which is a couple of inches longer than a Tesla Model X and just an inch shorter than the Mercedes EQS SUV. Despite these dimensions, the Eletre will not have a third row of seats; in fact, a four-place option will be available as part of an Executive Seat Pack.

Lotus claims the Eletre interior will have all the trappings one would expect of an ultra-premium crossover EV, including a 1,380-watt KEF premium audio with 15 speakers, screens galore, that four-seat option, and no fewer than a half-dozen unique interior styles. Of interest to this techie is mention of an infotainment platform which utilizes a dual-chip system to enable “server-level computing power” for rapid processing and smooth rendering.

The entry-level Eletre will cost 89,500 pounds (roughly $140,000 Canadian) when it goes on sale in the U.K. and other markets in the first half of next year. The S trim will cost 104,500 pounds (CDN$163,000) and the top-tier R with its 900-plus horsepower is set at an even 120,000 pounds (CDN$188,000). Plans for the arrival of the Eletre in North America are in the works, with a roll-out set to begin by 2024. Prices for our neck of the woods will appear in due time.
