Team Eagle Couriers have been crowned the most economical EV drivers in GREENFLEET’S Tri-Hub EV Challenge, which took place on 25 August in Scotland.
Jacqui Coulter and Vivienne Wallace completed the challenge in a Citroen e-C4, achieving 4.8 m/kWh on a 204 mile route.
Delivered in association with Transport Scotland and Glasgow City Council, the Tri-Hub EV Challenge took place on 25 August and gave Scottish businesses the chance to test their EV credentials, and at the same time, experience EV capability and the innovation of the ChargePlace Scotland charging infrastructure.
The electric vehicles, supplied by Arnold Clark Vehicle Management, were driven by fleet teams, who embarked on +200 electric mile challenge, taking in three charging hubs and other checkpoints along the way. The hubs, managed by East Ayrshire, East Lothian and Falkirk Councils, were joined by Glasgow Fort as Official checkpoints, before the vehicles returned to Glasgow. They were then inspected for energy consumption (miles per kilowatt hour) to establish who the most efficient EV driver was.
‘Driving style’ plays a key role in getting the best from the battery, so a light foot, good anticipation and making use of the innovative technology on the car, like regenerative braking, was crucial for drivers in the challenge.
Scottish Power’s team drove a Kia EV6, team ACVM drove a Mercedes EQC, and Transport Scotland were behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang Mach-e. The University of Glasgow’s team took to the roads in a Volkswagen ID.4, team ScotRail drove a Vauxhall Mokka E, and SWARCO/ CPS completed the challenge in an Audi E-Tron.
Meanwhile, Glasgow City Council drove a Hyundai Ionic 5, Eagle Couriers took a Citroen e-C4, Wyre were in a Peugeot e-2008, Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service took part in the challenge with a Skoda ENYAQ, and the Co Wheels team had their own vehicle.

Second place was presented to the University of Glasgow team, who completed the challenge in a Volkswagen ID.4 in 4.8m/kWh. Joint third place was awarded to Wyre and Co-Wheels, who achieved 4.4 m/kWh.
