Recent data has found that Tesla’s Model S and Model X are the most expensive electric cars to charge in the UK. The research found that both Teslas would cost £26.60 to fully charge, as they both have the same battery capacity.
The Model S is the brand’s flagship vehicle and is one of the most popular high-performance EVs on the market.
On the other hand, the Model X is a mid-size luxury crossover, equipped with Tesla’s Autopilot driver assistance system and its unique falcon-wing doors.
Tesla users can take advantage of Tesla’s vast Supercharger network, which has over 35,000 chargers worldwide.
On average, the Tesla charging stations cost 50p per kWh for monthly members (£10.99 a month) or 60p for non-members.
Electric cars
In third place is the Audi e-tron, which is the German automaker’s first fully electric car, which will set drivers back £23.80 for a full charge, according to Zutobi.
It is a practical and spacious family car but has proven less popular than its competitors like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace – the fourth most expensive EV to charge.
The luxury SUV costs £23.72 to charge in the UK and is Jaguar’s fully-electric compact crossover, which uses technology used by the Jaguar racing programme.
The 2023 model has a range of up to 292 miles, and can go from zero to 60mph in 4.8 seconds.

One surprise on the list is the seventh most expensive electric car to charge – BYD’s Han.
The Chinese brand is a relative unknown in the UK, despite being the fourth-largest EV company in the world.
The Shenzhen-based automaker made headlines in June when it announced it had sold almost 650,000 EVs in the first half of 2022, overtaking Tesla to become the largest EV manufacturer in the world.
The data is based on electricity costs per kWh from Global Petrol Prices, with range data taken from the Electric Vehicle Database.
Based on Zap-Map statistics, there were more than 530,000 battery-electric vehicles on UK roads at the end of August 2022.
The UK, and the rest of the world, have seen massive increases in the uptake of electric vehicles in the past five years thanks to developing infrastructure and technology.
Earlier this year, Osprey Charging, one of the UK’s largest public charging networks, announced it would be increasing its charging prices.
In a statement from its CEO, Ian Johnston, it was revealed that the company would increase its rapid charging rate to £1 per kWh.
