Dongfeng-Nissan has revealed the first car from its e-POWER series in China and claims it is an “electric vehicle without recharging.”
The new car was released at the China Motor Show (Tianjin). Dongfeng-Nissan is claiming that the as-yet nameless car is a “new generation” of power technology.
It has developed a unique powertrain of “100% gasoline-power, 100% electric-drive,” meaning it generates electric power with fuel, and drive the car with electricity.
One of the odd e-POWER cars on show.
The company says that e-POWER “innovatively preserves the advantages of pure electricity without the recharging anxiety” and “provides Chinese market with an alternative choice.”
According to Dongfeng-Nissan, the main selling point of this new car is its unusual power system. The car has been equipped with a “professional high-efficiency e-motor” that can output 300 Nm of maximum peak torque from a standstill.
But, of course, the electricity for the motor comes from a petrol engine that can manage 3.9 litres per 100 km – around 60 miles per gallon. However, Dongfeng-Nissan didn’t mention the car’s maximum range.

The company also says the new e-POWER has “a very strong battery.” It has a 30C discharge rate, apparently 10 times more efficient than traditional energy storage batteries, as well as being quieter and lighter. .
Besides the power system, the company mentions that the new car is available with “special designed interior space” and Nissan’s Pro PILOT Super Intelligent driving system that has been “tested on 320,000 km of roads”.
Dongfeng-Nissan claims that this e-POWER model is “just a start” and has promised that six models of the series will be ready by 2025. On the same day, the company also unveiled the KICKS SUV, apparently targeting “young people” at the China Motor Show (Tianjin).
