Photos: Freelance Pix An impressive field of 170 entries battled it out at Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend for the fourth round of the 2023 Motorsport Australia NSW Motor Race Championships.
With a strong showing of 10 categories in action for the jam-packed weekend, there was a fair share of drivers who dominated their respective grids to come away with clean sweeps and perfect weekends.
Out of the 10 categories in action, seven saw one driver take out top honours in dominant fashion with one of the most impressive performances coming in the Production Touring Cars, which boasted the biggest field all weekend.
Claiming round honours with three wins from three was this year’s Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour winner in Simon Hodges, who steered his BMW M4 to 10-second victories in races one and two, before securing the clean sweep in race three with a two second win over another national star in Anthony Soole.
It was a similar outcome in the Formula Ford Championship as Kaleb Belak claimed comfortable 20-second wins in the opening two races before William Lowing brought the gap to within five seconds in the finale. However, Belak remained too strong and picked up his third win.
Alexander Kenny was made to work a little harder than the previous two winners as his three Supersports victories over the Radical-heavy field were much closer – including five seconds victories to the Nova Proto pilot over the likes of Justin Tigani and Nick Kelly in the first two races.
The other three clean sweeps were completed in convincing fashion as South Australian Adam Poole won every Improved Production Over 2 Litres Cars by around 30 seconds or more, George Miedecke won the two-race Production Sports Cars by an average of 30 seconds and Chris Molle, who overcame a tight HQ Holden qualifying session to win all three races.
As for the remaining three categories, there may have been a clear winner in each, but the results went right down to the wire in every race.
Just one second proved the difference between winner Douglas Barry and runner-up Brodie Norris in the opening two Formula Race Car outings, before Norris got the win in the final race, beating teenager Kristian Janev by less than three tenths and Barry by half a second.
The gap was even smaller in the Formula Vee Championship as Darren Williams and Tyron Wiseman traded wins in the opening two races – each by less than one tenth of a second.
Williams would go onto win the most entertaining battle for the all weekend after taking out the final race by seven tenths over Craig Sparke, as Wiseman rounded out the top three.
The final category for the weekend was the RX8 Cup where Ryan Gorton enjoyed three victories out of the four races – two of which were over race three winner Bradley Harris.
In what proved a close affair between the two – it was Harris’ eighth place that cost him any chance of round honours – despite finishing second twice and picking up a win himself.
The Motorsport Australia NSW Motor Race Championships will return to Sydney Motorsport Park four round four of the 2023 season on 8 July.
