Ford’s all-electric E-Transit hits showrooms this week with a price-tag that might scare the horses a little.
The two-model range kicks off with the mid-roof model at $104,990 before on-road costs, while the high-roof version (with an extra 1.4 cubic metres of cargo space (12.4 plays 11.0) takes the sticker to $106,490.
Options amount to an extra sliding-side door (for the driver’s side) at $1000, prestige paint at $700 and SVO paint at $1400. You can also option a single passenger’s seat rather than the standard two-seat bench for $150.
All versions use the same 68kW battery and electric motor which makes 198kW of power and 430Nm, making the E-Transit the most powerful and fastest – as well as the most expensive – model in the Transit line-up.
By comparison, the most expensive conventionally powered Transit, the 410L LWB costs $67,090 and makes 125kW of power.
But if the E-Transit sounds pricey, it’s not out of the ballpark when compared with its – limited – competitors.
The LDV eDeliver9 starts at $99,990 and the Mercedes-Benz eVito costs $89,353.
