Every automotive enthusiast and fan of the movie franchise “Back to the Future” is well versed with the iconic automobile DeLorean DMC-12; The car that featured as the time-travelling machine in the legendary Hollywood 1985 Sci-fi film. The DeLorean gained immense popularity on the screens but unfortunately, because of being a poor performing car failed in real-life and after a few failed attempts at its revival, the DeLorean Motor Company has now recently shared a huge teaser for the renewal of the infamous brand and model.
The company in its latest tweet said, “The Future was never promised. Reimagine today. Sign up for the premiere of the DeLorean in 2022.” and shared a teaser video in which the silhouette of the prominent gull-wing doors can be seen forming on a black background. In the teaser, the redesigned front fascia of the upcoming DeLorean car is also seen forming by the same tracing line. The front although looks similar to the old car still feels a bit different. Later on, in the shared clip the text “DeLorean Motor Company” appears and the DeLorean website is displayed where those interested can sign up to receive updates about the incoming vehicle.
As of now, there is no information on the design and powertrain of the upcoming DeLorean product but judging by the hashtags #DeLoreanEVolved, #ElectricVehicle used in the recent company tweet, it is safe to assume that the new model could be named EVolved and it will come equipped with a new electric drivetrain. Additionally, the DeLorean website previously also hinted at the electrified aspect of the new model as it was mentioned that the company is taking a “journey to electrification,”.
Italdesign, the company responsible for the look for the original DeLorean DMC-12, in the occasion of the celebration of their 54th birthday shared the same teaser of the infamous brand. Italdesign, previously in January also shared a picture of a similar silhouette of the vehicle with the winged doors open. The only difference between the newly released teaser and the picture is that the picture also features a glowing DMC logo.
Originally released in 1981 to the public, the DeLorean DMC failed miserably and had to cease its production in just a years time in 1982. The vehicle was severely underpowered resulting in poor performance and had a reputation for very poor build quality and a shoddy driving experience. Although, the car later rose to fame as it was featured in the 1985 megahit Back To The Future film as a time machine.
Subsequently, a few more attempts were made by the company for its revival in 2007 and 2017 but nothing seemed to have helped the brand immensely. In 2007 the company hand-built a small number of new ones and in 2017, they attempted to assemble more using the original parts but was not able to make a lot of them as there was not an abundance of parts. However, this time around it seems like the company is looking forward to entering mass production and attracting the lovers of the iconic automobile by turning it into an electric vehicle.
