The Beijing Auto Show has been indefinitely postponed amidst concerns over a coronavirus outbreak.
Rumours began circulating last month that this would be the case but it is now official news as the country has been struggling to keep the resurgence of Covid-19 at bay. The Secretariat of Auto China used Chinese social media platform WeChat to confirm this news however no additional information nor timeline was included for a tentative date in the future.
Representatives from Auto China further stated that: “We will pay close attention to the development of the epidemic, and strive to enhance the event’s organisation and service work according to the requirements of the epidemic prevention and control policy. The specific holding time after the extension will be notified separately.”
The show was intended to kick off on the 21st of April and run its course until the 30th, allowing the public to feast their eyes on local and international automotive creations. While it was scheduled to take place in less than three weeks, it is still unknown which cars were destined to debut at the Beijing Auto Show.
BMW were set to have a busy event with the i7 and long-wheelbase i3 electric sedans making an appearance at the show while the futuristic Volkswagen Aero B concept was also set to be displayed at the Beijing Auto Show.
Some brands who were booked to unveil models may opt for the virtual route once again since it is still unknown at this point if the show will be rescheduled for a date later on in the year.
