Despite the all-new and making some drastic changes for the new generation’s layout and features, it seems that Indonesians are still quite reluctant in returning the title of Indonesia’s best-selling crown to the 7-seater.
At least for the first couple of months of 2022, which saw the title being held by the in January and the Honda Brio in February. Even among rivals, the Avanza/Veloz couldn’t quite achieve the best-selling title in its category.
Nor did the Xpander and instead, the best-selling B-segment 7-seater (or LMPV as they are categorised in Indonesia) for February 2022 goes to the Daihatsu Xenia. The Xenia is the triplet to the Avanza/Veloz pair and shares the same mechanics underneath.
According to the sales data by Gaikindo, 3,646 units of the Xenia were sold in Indonesia making the Daihatsu MPV the fourth best-selling car overall in the second month of 2022.
Sticking with the LMPV segment, the second best-selling model is the which saw 3,514 units being sold. Third-place goes to the Mitsubishi Xpander with January’s best-seller only moving 3,153 units in February.
The Toyota Avanza and Veloz each sold 3,061 units and 2,863 units respectively in February. Previous generations saw the figures for both the Avanza and Veloz combined but for this all-new generation, Gaikindo decided to classify both models separately.
Xpander Cross shown
Speaking of separation, the Xpander’s sales figures for February were actually split with the rugged Xpander Cross being treated as a separate model. 1,034 units of the Xpander Cross were sold in February and even if both models’ numbers are combined, it would still trail behind the Honda Brio (5,576 units in Feb-2022).
Xenia 1.3 X shown
Our Indonesian colleagues at AutoFun ID managed to break down each model’s best-selling variants with many buyers opting for the 1.3 X variant on the Xenia, the 1.5 G variant on the Avanza, and the Ultimate CVT variant for the Xpander.
The most expensive Xpander is also the most popular among Indonesians
It’s interesting to note the type of buyers for these models that share the same category. The majority of Xpander buyers are willing to get the highest variant while most buyers opting for the Xenia or Avanza would go for the middle variants.
