- Revealed alongside new UrbanRebel
- Bigger than the Tavascan EV
- Built in Audi’s Gyor plant, coming 2024
And then there was Terramar. Revealed at Curpa’s Unstoppable Impulse event last night, the Terramar is a sport SUV from Cupra that should appear around 2024. The largest car yet from the Seat spin-off, it’ll use hybrid – not pure electric – power, and be built in Audi’s Gyor plant.
It looks huge!
At 4.5 metres long, the Terramar will be the largest Cupra on sale, nudging just ahead of the Formentor. When it’s released in two years, features the same shark-like design as seen in the rest of the range. Like the new models revealed alongside it, the new Terramar features full-width brake lights at the rear, and a distinctive triple-triangle headlight signature at the front.
Despite being a hybrid, it’ll have a relatively low-profile grille too, keeping within the clean look now worn by the revised Born, Leon, Tavascan and others.
Wait, it’s a hybrid?
Although Cupra is pushing electrification and sustainability as key to its mission as an exciting new start-up, it’s persisting with hybrids. That being said, it’ll be the last non-BEV vehicle we see from the brand.
‘Terramar, our new sporty hybrid SUV, perfectly combines bold proportions with a long striking bonnet, while the shark nose means breakthrough resistance and the determination to win’, said Jorge Diez, Design Director at Cupra. ‘Thinking of how the driver will feel, we provide a unique experience with the latest technology, thanks to the driver oriented interior concept. All in all, a 4.5 metre long SUV, with CUPRA DNA ready to shake one of the most competitive segments.’
Cupra insists the eHybrid technology in the Terramar will be good for performance as well as efficiency, but it should have an EV-only range of around 60 miles.
