Your vehicle's tyre pressure can affect many aspects of your car. Here we list the correct tyre pressures for the entire Alfa Romeo Giulietta range.
Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta hatchback was introduced locally back in November 2010, and since then it’s had one major revision, in late 2016. The range for South Africa has not varied much at all, although there have been detailed changes to various models. The Italian hatchback is, however, no longer available locally as a new model. If you are in the market for the Italian model, feel free to browse used Alfa Romeo Giulietta models on AutoTrader here.
The line up
Only three engine variants have been available in South Africa for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, although there are more engine variants available in Europe. Here we get two 1.4-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder petrol engines in 88 kW and 125 kW MultiAir form, and a larger 1 742 cc turbocharged petrol engine as fitted to 1750 TBi Veloce.
At present the lesser-powered 88 kW turbo engine is fitted to the 1.4 TB and 1.4 TB Super derivatives, using a six-speed manual gearbox. The Giulietta 1.4 TB Super Auto gets the 125 kW MultiAir engine – the best engine in the range – and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox that offers automatic-transmission functionality. To our mind, this is a pity, as the MultiAir motor is a sweetheart and deserves the added interface between car and driver that only a manual ‘box provides.
The top of the range Giulietta model is the 1750 TBi Veloce, which has a 1 742 cc turbo petrol engine producing 177 kW and 340 Nm. It also uses the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Wheel and tyre sizes by model
The entry-level Giulietta 1.4 TB is fitted with 16-inch alloys and 205/55 R16 tyres, front and rear. Both the 1.4 TB Super and 1.4 TB Super Auto are fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels and 225/45 R17 tyres. The top-of the range Giulietta 1750 TBi Veloce is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels and 225/40 R18 low profile tyres.
Recommended pressures
In researching this article we were surprised that two Alfa Romeo Giulietta models we inspected had no door-jam sticker detailing tyre pressures. This is an oversight in our mind, as service station attendants often refer to this tyre pressure sticker to ascertain the correct pressure range. We obtained the information from a local Alfa Romeo workshop manager:
Tyre Size | Pressure Front | Pressure rear |
205/55 R16: | 2,3 bar to 2,7 bar (full load) | 2,1 bar to 2,3 bar (full load) |
225/45 R17: | 2,3 bar to 2,7 bar (full load) | 2,1 bar to 2,3 bar (full load) |
225/40 R18: | 2,6 bar to 3,0 bar (full load) | 2,1 bar to 2,6 bar (full load) |
