The EVs are here. If you were waiting to see “how they do” or “if they’ll stick,” we have made it. EVs are here, and they aren’t going anywhere. Nothing shows that more than the fact that electric cars are the hardest to get and most desirable models from every major manufacturer. That said, Consumer Reports named the 2022 Kia Niro the best electric vehicle it has tested so far. However, Consumer Reports loves the 2022 Kia Niro EV for one reason above any other.

Is the 2022 Nia Niro EV a good car?
As we said, Consumer Reports rated the Kia Niro EV higher than any other EV. There are many things CR liked about the Kia EV.
The Kia Niro EV has an impressive range of 239 miles. It also boasts a serious list of features and creature comforts. CR says that compared to other similar EVs like the Tesla Model 3, the Niro EV has a more forgiving ride, bigger interior, and simpler controls.
The Niro EV’s starting price of $39,090 is pretty competitive on its own, but CR also says that compared to some of the cheaper EVs like the Chevy Bolt or Nissan Leaf, the Niro EV feels higher quality and more refined.
Along with its many strengths, the Niro EV also has a few soft spots. CR mentions that the Niro EV doesn’t offer AWD and has stiff back seats. Worst still is the only real knock against the practicality of the Niro EV; it takes nearly 10 hours to charge Kia’s EV.
What is the best part of the 2022 Kia Niro EV?
Consumer Reports loved many aspects of the 2022 Kia Niro EV. However, one overarching thing stuck out to them above all else: practicality.
The Niro EV sports a torquey 201-hp electric powertrain that instantly delivers snappy acceleration. It’s not breaking any land-speed records but can still rip a 0-60 mph sprint in 6.8 seconds.
That power is put to good use in the corners. Thanks to the low-mounted battery keeping the center of gravity low, and no bulky engine up front, the Niro feels light and nimble.
Despite being a touch firm, the Niro EV also has a comfortable ride with plenty of room inside. The interior provides plenty of visibility up front, although the rear is slightly more obstructed. The Niro EV also has a commanding, upright driving position.
The most practical aspect of all is how safe the Kia Niro EV is. The NHTSA gave the Niro five stars on its crash tests. The Niro EV also comes with standard safety equipment such as forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), blind spot warning (BSW), and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW).

Consumer Reports says, “a heavy dose of practicality and creature comforts makes it one of the most livable new EVs.” A car being “liveable” is a grossly underestimated aspect of cars. I tested many cars and trucks that I loved for a week. But if I had to drive them every day, get in and out of them every day, or fill them up with fuel every day, I would hate them.
Make sure you always buy cars that are liveable. No, the 2022 Kia Niro EV might not be the coolest thing on four wheels, but it’s efficient, practical, and honest. Maybe that’s enough?
