The crabwalk feature on this upcoming Supertruck from GMC ain’t no gimmick, here’s why
General Motors will introduce the 2022 Hummer EV in the US market soon. The EV comes loaded with features that make it extremely capable both on and offroad. But the new ’Crabwalk’ feature, in particular, makes this EV stand out amongst the crowd.
In layman terms, the crabwalk feature on the Hummer EV allows the vehicle to move diagonally. We try to explain how it works in real life.
How Does the Crabwalk system work on the Hummer EV?
The crabwalk mode in Hummer is one feature that definitely makes this EV stand out amongst the crowd
The Hummer EV uses a four-wheel steering system available on higher trim levels. Once the driver activates the crabwalk mode, the four-wheel steering allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 10 degrees in or out of phase with the front wheels. So when the driver hits the throttle, the vehicle moves diagonally (instead of driving straight) – just how the crab walks in real life.
The Benefits Of The Crabwalk Driving Mode?
The amazing angle of the wheels reduces the turning radius of the big truck to just 10.6 meters which is tighter than many General Motors vehicles or even a few compact cars. The crabwalk can also be activated to drive diagonally to avoid an obstacle rather than trying a multipoint turn. The crabwalk is an interesting new feature that will allow the 216.9 inches long Hummer EV to move easily when the trails get tight.
This unique capability on the Hummer EV allows the vehicle to move diagonally, helping navigate tricky obstacles far more easily
Having said that, there are a few limitations to the crabwalk mode. The crabwalk feature on the GMC Hummer EV works only at low speeds and makes the long pickup truck feel more maneuverable.

The Electric vehicle uses GM’s new Ultium battery-pack technology to power three electric motors that make 1000 horsepower and approximately 15,591 Nm of torque (Yes! You read that right).
All-wheel drive comes as standard with the model. The Hummer EV surely does not disappoint when it comes to performance. This 4,103 kg Pickup truck can accelerate from 0-97 kmph mark in just 3 seconds while the SUV takes 3.5 seconds.
2022 Hummer EV Range
The Hummer EV Pickup boasts an estimated 350 miles/564 km on a single charge. General Motors said that the Hummer EV gets a 350-kilowatt fast-charging capability which will provide 100 miles/160 km range with just 10 minutes of charging
