Chery has reached the major milestone of selling 20,000 units in South Africa a mere 18 months after re-entering the market, equating to an average of 1,111 cars a month and making the Chinese automaker one of the country’s favourite brands.
To celebrate the momentous occasion, the manufacturer has launched the new Chery Extender after-sales agreement range with three products offered to both newcomers and existing owners.
These include:
- Extended mechanical warranty – With this product, the owner can extend the full mechanical warranty to the same duration as the engine warranty (10 years/1-million km)
- Extended service plan – Cover the same labour costs and other service plan items as covered by the standard Chery service plan for an extended period
- Extended maintenance plan – Upgrades service plan to maintenance plan that covers wear-and-tear parts such as filters, oil, wiper blades, brakes, and brake discs alongside the elements normally covered by a standard service plan
One major benefit of the extended mechanical warranty is that it remains with the vehicle and is therefore “transferrable between owners” whereas the engine warranty is only valid for the original buyer of the car, said Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
“We have repeatedly said that every sale to a customer is an endorsement of our vehicles, their quality, and our customer service and support,” said Liu.
“For this very reason, we do not take this milestone lightly, we aim to celebrate it with every customer and our dealers who have helped us to reach this milestone”.
Chery goes big in South Africa
To ensure that it has the parts and services available to back up the new extended after-sales contracts, Chery recently invested in a larger Gauteng-based warehouse that stocks R70-million worth of components at all times with the capability to accommodate up to R100-million in parts if required – representing over 4,500 different part lines.
Moreover, the automaker arrived in South Africa in late 2021 with a network of only 30 dealers and one model in its portfolio, the Tiggo 4 Pro, and it has since grown to 74 branches nationwide and added the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro to its line-up.
Chery has also introduced its luxurious Omoda brand to the domestic market during this time, and in the near future, it will be making its mark on the new-energy-vehicle (NEV) sector with the debut of its first hybrid vehicles which are slated to land in the country in the initial six months of 2024.
