Chevrolet will soon offer buyers of the 2023 Corvette Z06 a chance to do what virtually no other new-car can — a help build their own car’s engine, specifically the C8’s incredible 5.5-litre LT6 flat-plane-crankshaft all-aluminum V8, according to Corvette Blogger.
Announced at the 28th-anniversary celebration of the National Corvette Museum, Corvette assembly plant director Kai Spande said the program will begin in Q2 2023 at the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Buyers will be assigned a station where all the engine parts are brought for assembly. From swabbing oil into a cylinder to tweaking details on its surface, they will work alongside a master engine builder to complete the project.
Following completion of the engine and a mandatory dyno run, it will return to the plant and be installed into the buyer’s Corvette Z06 on the assembly line down the road, reports Corvette Blogger.
It isn’t the first time Chevrolet has unlocked its Build Your Own Engine (BYOE) program. It previously offered a similar program with a price tag of $5,000, roughly 10 years ago, when the LS7 and LS9 engines were in production.
In Canada, pricing for the 2023 Corvette Z06 opens at $128,198 for the base-level 1LZ coupe; $138,198 for the 2LZ coupe; and $144,198 for the 3LZ coupe. Convertible versions of all three trims are also available for an additional $9,000 each, and all prices include the $2,298 destination freight charge.
It was available for order in Canada as of July 28, 2022.
