Chery has launched the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX in South Africa which is now the automaker’s new flagship SUV.
The MAX is on sale from today at a starting price of R629,900 with a 10-year/1-million-kilometre mechanical warranty and 7-year/90,000km service plan included.
What’s new
Unlike the rest of the Tiggo 8 Pro family which gets a 1.6-litre motor, the newcomer is equipped with a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol unit matched to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox that turns the front wheels.
The new powertrain develops 187kW and 390Nm – 42kW and 100Nm more than its siblings – ensuring a 0-100km/h run of 7.3 seconds while average fuel consumption is rated at 7.0l/100km.
In addition to the uprated powerplant, the MAX comes with a high level of standard spec as part of its positioning right at the top of the line-up.
Buyers can expect a large panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch “floating” touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an additional 8-inch touch screen for the dual-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, voice control, electric front seats, an 8-speaker Sony stereo, a wireless charging pad, and black leather upholstery.
Chery has also added privacy glass to the rear passenger compartment and upgraded the windscreen and front side windows to thicker sound-dampening glass for a “more refined driving experience,” said the manufacturer.
Continuing the no-cost fitments are forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control with emergency braking assistance, lane departure warnings, and blind-spot monitoring.
One year of Chery in South Africa
The debut of the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX is part of Chery’s one-year celebration of being back in South Africa.
The Chinese automaker re-entered the domestic market back in November 2021 and it has since grown to boast a network of 74 dealerships across the country.
It recently also reached the milestone of 10,000 units sold in South Africa in under 11 months, which came off the back of a new global sales record of moving more than one million units in the first 10 months of 2022.
