In its many incarnations and forms, the world of motorsports is often gruelling and challenging but more often than not it’s heartwarming and inspiring. In the case of young Oratilwe Phiri, his first bike race happened when he was only four years old and has since been dedicated to becoming a superbike champion.

“My dream is to be a MotoGP world champion one day” -Oratilwe Phiri
Bits of the mini-documentary published in collaboration with “Panther Punch” showcase an even younger Oratilwe buzzing around an open space on a little pocket rocket. Years later, at the age of 14, the ambitious superbike rider has net a total of 62 podium finishes! Consistently aiming to do better, Oratilwe’s parents, Thabiso and Tselane Phiri serve as their son’s main support structure. His father, Thabiso Phiri, explained that” I’m his mentor, his coach, full-time mechanic and mainly, sponsor”. According to his mother, her role is as her son’s “biggest cheerleader”

While the Checkers Sixty60 bikes hold the title of fastest delivery bikes in SA (unofficially), they allowed Brad Binder to steal the spotlight and join Oratilwe Phiri on a couple of laps around Red Star Raceway. The seasoned MotoGP contender piloting the RedBull KTM bike began his superbike racing journey in 2011 and has since achieved five podium finishes. Binder returns for his fourth season in the MotoGP championship, which will see the likes of the seemingly infallible Ducati-backed teams.
